so the turbo on my engine went out and it cracked the mani and may have posibly put metal shavings in my engine...the motor is original 147 xxx miles and my friends tell me i might have to ether sell the car or get another motor...the problem is i have no idea where to start and so many questions that i need answered firs. ex: can i use a 1g motor on my 2g and still pass California smog test? and if i use a 1g engine what parts do i need to fabricate or change to make it work right?

I recommend you do a lot of research first. Then determine your budget. I ended up going way over on my budget because I found a lot of things wrong and I was not able to do the work myself. Some questions you should ask yourself:

1. How badly do you want to keep your car?
2. How much money do you have to fix it?
3. How mechanically inclined are you?

If the answers to this are:

1. I'd ride the bus before giving up my car
2. About 2-3k minimum with a lot of help from friends
3. I have a garage and can do almost everything myself.

Then I'd say go for a 6 bolt swap, otherwise, do some research and if you have a significant other, you'll need a heart to heart before investing in this project.

well i think i found a motor for my gen so i think im just gana swap it for another stock and use the original block as the base to start building my race engine... i found one for about 2000 and a shop will charge me 760 for the swap...sound good?

as for my significant other i think shes with me cause if the car LOL.

Nothing wrong with that. If you want to stay with the 7 bolt, cool. A lot of people are putting down some good numbers on the 7 bolt and as long as you get a BSE you'll be just fine. I don't really think crankwalk is an issue as much as it's touted. I do believe that by removing the balance shafts, you are removing a parasitic portion of the engine and you are simplifying it. Those are the reasons, imo, that make it worth while to do it.

it will free up about maybe 10hp and it will vibrate a little more, it its not really noticeable. plus the balance shaft belt sits right behind the timming belt and its a thin little belt. if it breaks and gets tangled in your timming belt say bye bye to your replacement motor. its more of a liabilaty than its worth when u start making more power. get an elimination kit and do it while swaping motors.:thumb:

If you lived close to me here in west virginia, ive been tryin to sell my 7 bolt for 500 bucks and no one wants it. I just want to get it out of my garage. Its freshly rebuilt so i was told when i baught the car but i did a 6 bolt swap so i dont need the motor. I cant give this thing away
