hey dsmer's i ned some advicereal bad. my head has been turning like crazy on what i should do as far as engine management with my 1g awd talon. her is the problum.... i have 850cc injectors, walbro 255, aeromotive fpr, hahn racecraft super 20g, o3 dump, 3 inch turbo back exhaust, ported manifolds... now my problum is this... should i get a maft gen II, dsmlink or what. i know people are just gonig to say go dsmlink but money is a problum here and would rather conserve. my question is do i really have to get dsmlink or can i tune just fine with the new gm maft gen II and a logger. If i get dsmlink i need to get a eprom and everything. i also still need to get a FMIC and piping kit. Can a maft tune 850's?

sorry but i have another question also for my set up.... i have a 2g mas with injen pipe laying around and was wondering how much horsepower a 2g mas can support, i suppose if i went link i would use this, but if i went the maft route i would have a gm mass.... pretty much someone help me i got 900 to finish the car

I also vote DSMlink. And it has the FakeMAF option which will allow your 2g mas to support more than it will on it's own. Your only restriction will be when you're actually outflowing it because of a large turbo (which isn't the 20g).

You might already have an EPROM since you have a '95. Here's how to check:

so i couldnt get away with like a maft gen 2 and a logger? or a safc and a dsmchip or a maft gen2 and a dsmchip? im just looking for the best thing for the cheapest i just feel if i get dsmlink then i outflow the 2g mass and i have to get a gm mas i feel that its like a waste of money becasue your buying a maf translaotr and setting it on zero casue u have link... there is no other way to run a gm mas without a translator?

thats why i was seeing if i could get away with getting a nice front mount(i like the sbr street kits) then getting the blow through set up with a gm mas and get the new maft gen 2 and a logger and maybe even down the round try setting up that wideband tracking and then if thats not enoguh get a dsmchip. This wouldnt work>? like i said i have fic850's so the maft 2 cant handle them? i have been reading up on that maft2 and it sounds pretty good, to me it sounds like a orgianl maft and a safc put together and even a wideband. but you guys all think forget get it and spend the extra money out of my budget and go link? which then means i have to get a cheaper FMIC..

Even though this all has been discussed so much i really am thankful for everyones imput and i have done so much research and i am just so confused with what i want to do.

dsmlink for sure!! do a search on the maft and dsmlink. you will easily see why link is the way to go

Yes, you could probably get away with other configurations. We're not saying you can't, we're just saying do it once and do it right.

So you feel if you get DSMlink you'll outflow the 2g MAS, whereas if you get some other setup you won't? I'm confused as to your logic on that one. Also, as I stated in my above post (Gleason did as well), you won't outflow the 2g MAS, and even if you outflow the sensor, that's what the FakeMAF option is there for. I'm sure there are people running bigger turbos with the stock 2g MAS.

No, there is no other way to run the GM MAF without some sort of translator.

Yes, I understand, as most DSMers do, you want the best products for the least amount of money. But do you need both the FMIC and your logger/tuner at the same time? Yes, it'd be ideal, but if you can't afford it, you can't. And why spend a lot of money on an FMIC and skimp on your tuning/logging system or visa versa? Buy one or the other, then save up some more money and buy the one you didn't. I'm sure you'd be happier in the end having your "ideal" setup, rather than knowing there's something you'd rather have, or even worse, end up purchasing a little while down the road. I personally want a few parts right now, but I'm pretty set on which ones I want. So if I don't have any money, they have to wait until I do. I would hate putting something on my car knowing there's something that's better (within reason) or something more suited for my application and use. Just something for you to think about.

thank you guys for all the imput you have made me feel a lot better and gave me a realy good idea on what i will do with my set up...

one last thing with the fmic, what set up do you guys recommend for my set up.... i have been looking and like i dont no what kit will work becasue i have the super 20g with the elbow welded on it and it seems all fmic set ups are for j piped turbos or down firing turbos. what will i have to do to make mine fit.

My first vote would be for DSMLink as well, since I use it I know how easy it is to use.

My second vote would be for a Keydiver chip burned for your setup and fine tune with a SAFC.

My third and last vote would be for the MAF-T Gen 2 as I've yet to see someone with a nice, consistent tune running it by itself.

If I understand you, your turbo looks like this one?

Do you want to go with long or short route piping? Do you want to get a name brand or would a proven eBay set work? If it looks like the above turbo, you should be able to get any short route kit and be set. The licp will connect to the end tank with a straight coupler and then bend around and connect to the turbo with a straight coupler. You just wouldn't have to worry about a 90* coupler to connect to the turbo/j pipe since you have the elbow already welded on. If you want name brand, I'd say go with ETS as they'll be able to get you exactly what you want. I, as well as a lot of other members here, run the SSAC FMIC kit and also have no problems with it. It's been taken into the 11's at the track (and even possibly into the 10's, I don't remember). Hopefully that gives you some more options to think about.

Edit: Stupid me, I keep forgetting you're talking about a 1g. So you can probably ignore most of what I just said. But I still would say give ETS a shout and see what they could do for you.

Check out DS-MAP.net. I am working on installing it on my 91 TSI AWD all to gether it has cost me around $300. It is a speed density setup. You need an eprom ecu, Ostich (eprom emulator), GM 3 bar map, and a GM AIT sensor. It seems to have more tuning options than the DSMLink for half the money. The actual software is free and it works through the Ostrich. You will also need some thing for loging i got a Palm III for $.01 off ebay and built my own cable. They have the software linked off their page an its all free. I went with it because i didnt have the money for the DSMLink. Should be fully installed in a couple of weeks.

If you would like to know where to get the stuff just let me know or the guys over at DS-MAP.net can help ya.
