rattling noise when car put into gear... HELP!

My car has just developed this odd rattling/ticking noise coming from the engine bay today!!.. car starts and drives fine, I can even rev it up and all fine in park but the moment i switch it to neutral or drive (no gas or with gas), this loud ticking sound goes off and its driving me crazy!! any idea what would cause this?
I'll post a clip or something tomorrow...

For starters you need to get a friend to help you find out where the noise is coming from. Try to narrow down wether it is coming from the tranny area or engine area. Find out then report back and we can help you further. Travis

pretty hard to tell.. I might bring it to someone's house tomorrow and hopefully we can pinpoint where its coming from...

here's a clip though.. I have another question: would an exhaust leak be able to cause this sound? When I rev it up while im in gear, the tick goes away though

car runs fine... I just hope its nothing serious arghhh

here's a youtube link for those people who don't have realplayer...

any suggestions at all? I got some friends to help listen... some people say it's coming from the turbo, others said it might be an exhaust leak...
i dont think its the turbo since my car doesn't sputter, no blowing smoke or anything out of the ordinary other than the tick.. im leaning more to believe that its an exhaust leak, since the sound KINDA calms down when the car gets to operating temperature, and only showing up at lower RPM's

I can't see the video, but if it sounds like tin or thin metal clanking around, it could be your heat shields rattling around.

I took the exhaust manifold heat shield yesterday and it was still making that sound ... there was also a crack that I know has always been there since I see condensation/a little smoke coming out of the manifold shield area during cold starts so I knew there was an exhaust leak but why all of a sudden do this kinda sound though.. I'm stumped

update: the "tick" goes away(whether on gear or not) when the car reaches normal temperature ON IDLE. but once I put gas and get into lower RPM's where the engine's sound isn't louder than the tick, it's still there..

Get a shethoscope and poke around. But it sounds like a trans problem scence it only happens in gear and that has no effect on the enging besides load.
