edmonton,
Okay, sorry for the noob question but.. I just recently bought a set of tuner nuts off ebay for my summer rims, and I was looking for a 12 x 1.5 tread size one. Found one, bought it, and today they arrived... but my concern is, the package was opened (no biggie..), but on the packaging it says 12 x 1.25 so it can either be one of two things

a.) they ####ed up and sent me the wrong set
b.) it IS 12 x 1.5 but they put it in an opened case of an older package of a 12 x 1.25 set

already emailed the seller about this as well.
but now here's my question: what do the dimensions in the lug nut size stand for? I tried googling it and everything, and it seems that the 12mm is the opening size, but the 1.5 is what im not sure about... i THINK its the height of the lug? because I tried measuring the height of it, and it's about 1.45 - 1.475 inches from top to bottom..

But thing is, it's a closed end lug so it doesnt exactly mean that the whole length of that is what will be treaded/mounted to, so I was thinking it would still be possible for it to have 1.25 inches of tread length if this is the case.

The first number is the diameter of the stud, and the second is the thread pitch(distance between each thread for metric). If they are labeled correctly, the 12 x 1.25 will be the same diameter but a finer thread. In that case, they will not work and ruin the threads if you force them on. Try threading one on by hand to know for sure or get a metric thread pitch gauge.

edit: sorry, I just re-read your statement again and it took me a while of reading to see what "thread pitch" was.. I'm pretty slow today

so to test if it is right (and indeed 12 x 1.5), should I be able to put them on easily by hand then?
on the other hand, if it is 12 x 1.25 instead.. how hard would it be to put them on by hand so I can tell the difference?

Thread pitch is measuring the thread, not the nut itself. It has nothing to do with the height of the nut.

Think of it as how fine the threads are. A bolt with 1mm between each thread will be finer than a bolt with 1.5 mm separating each thread.

EDIT: They should easily spin all the way on by hand without binding. If you can't get them by hand(and the threads aren't damaged in the first place) they are the wrong lugnuts.

yep I tested that... guy definitely did send me the wrong set of lugs... GRR
thanks a lot for the info!! :thumb:
