Would the sbr G50 be to much for the street?

Well here is the plan, buying a 1g from someone I know and it is coming with a decent setup...

3" turboback, 660's, afc, afpr, fmic...etc, all the neccessary tools for a turboswap...

Now the car currently has a mint 14b but I wanted to bump up to a nice little setup for the street...Now I was looking at the new M Trim from slowboy, but would the sbr G50 be to much for the street...Or anyone who has some input on a nice turbo setup I will take all info, thanks guys...

well, let me elaborate as to what I meant by a streetable turbo, LOL...I meant it as not blowing through gas, etc....I guess it comes down as to what exactly I am looking for, I was going to go with the M trim, but after reading up, I feel like I should just bump up to like a 50 trim and should be set for a while?

My suggestion would be to look at the PTE SCM5031 or a similar one to it.. It is quite the popular 50 trim for dsm's.. It has the potential to lay down some nice numbers from a 50 trim as well..

Thanks Blue, I will do some research on that turbo, it looks like im going to go with the 50 trim setup for this car then...I appreciate all the input you guys have given me in this thread...

Mods, thanks for editing my title, more suitable for the debate...LOL

The 50 trim is probably one of the best street turbos out there, relatively fast spool with awesome power gains!! Def 50 trim FTW, or even a 60 trim for the same price :shhh:

Pm me for details!

Joe

I love my SBR G-50. I would deffinately reccomend you get one of them from SlowBoy. I like this turbo so much that I am going to try and run 10's on it with a stock bottom end(and I think I will suceed). My mods are in my profile if you want to see what else the car has.

I agree 50 trim are very streetable and with a set of cams and the right tunning i was still gettin almost 30 mpg when I was staying out of boost. However, that cars long gone and im back to building. But let me know if you need anymore info on the setup I had.

Here is the thing if you want to make more than 350 hp then yeah a 50 trim will be for the street but if you drive your car everyday (rain, snow, whatever the wether gives you) then a 16g or 18g will be perfect. If its your everyday car you want reliability, plus 50 trim spools at higher rpm than 16g or 18g does too. Plus the money is a factor too.

awesome, done deal 50 trim it is...SBR Joe, im friends with Jeff and have been talking to him should be buying this car within the next few weeks, and will be looking to buy this setup sometime in the summer, just looking to get and idea of the swap I wanted to do...Thanks again for all the replies...

Hell Yeah Jeff's an awesome dude, gave him props for his journey to you guys,...LOL But yeah he will take care of the purchase when it's time for me to order, thanks for the input Joe...

sounds like that is the plan now, hopefully by the summer I will be able to go with G50 and tial 38mm external setup...as of right now that is going to be the setup...

Are you looking to run the wastegate off the manifold or o2 housing?

I was probuably going to order the sbr mani running the wastegate right off the manifold itself...is there a performance difference between running off the manifold or the O2 housing?

If you said off the manifold, I was just going to recommend the SlowBoy cast manifold. I have had good luck with it.

That is going to be the manifold I was going to order if I go with this setup, I know of a few people who ordered this manifold and have had goodluck with it...

Here is a few pictures of mine since it will be the same as yours. SBR G-50, SBR cast manifold, and Turbonetics evolution wastegate all ordered from SBR.

Don't mind the slight surface rust on the manifold. It was sitting for a while before being put on the car. All the rust came off after a heat cycle.

50 trim power FTW!!!

I loved it, but i am working on getting a holset hx 35-40 and try the limits on it.

I'm with this dude :thumb:

I run a PTE 5031e, awesome street turbo! However, now I'm already saving up for a Holset HX40 and seeing what I can do with pump gas and a stock bottom end!

I wish I did it all at once the first time, but you have to experience 300whp before you go for 400whp. The EvoIII 16g was my favorite turbo, the 50trim makes more power, but for the spool, I would rather own a turbo that is 100+whp more capable.

with the mods I listed in my first post, and switching from an afc to dsmlink, running say the sbr G50 externally gated what would I be looking at for whp? just curious...

Your going to need bigger injectors also to take advantage of the turbo. I don't like making predictions for power, but with bigger injectors I would say in the high 300's like 380-390awhp. Look at the mods listed in my profile. My car has almost everything you can do externally. The only thing I can think of that I don't have that is a bolt on would be an intake manifold. But I will be ordering one of SBR's soon for it. I'm sure my car won't have a problem breaking 400awhp the way it sits on pump gas.
