I just recently bought a 1990 eclipse with the 1.8 litre engine in it, i have been looking all over the place for aftermarket parts and what not for it, but all i can find is for the 4G63 not the 4G37

can you guys help me on where i should go to get the parts and also, what would be the best way to go to get a good amount of power out of it, i would like to turbo but if there is a good way to go N/A i would like that too

thanks

Before this hits a dead end thread, Welcome keep it as a daly driver and find a 4G63T car to play with even a 4g63NT would work.

Welcome again, and I hate to say this but honestly, no matter what you do to that car, it will NEVER be any kind of quick or fast. Keep it for your dd and gas saver and save up for the turbo brethren :)

He's right, the ONLY mods you can officially do to that car is basically a cat-back exhaust and an intake. That motor really can't handle any power becuaase its meant for being a gas saver commuter car. 4g63's are more popular and are more meant for modifying, at least the turbo's are anyways.:thumb:

You've bought a completed 1.8 car. In the real world, it has no higher plateau to attain. It will give you excellent mileage, be dependable, and look as good as a turbo.

If you want more of a car, start with one that was built that way. Trying to put a polish on that car will be an exercise in frustration.

Enjoy it while you save up your money.

Hi everbody I just got my eclipse about three weeks ago it is a 1992 model with the 1.8L SOHC (4G37) engine. I was wondering if there was any place to buy aftermarket parts as far as the engine goes, I am looking to boost my HP a little not much just something to toy around with. I have the understanding that this engine only comes with around something like 96 Hp I am looking to get something close to 150 or 200 hp. Is there a way or would I be better off with a (4g63t) 2.0L DOHC Turbo.

A lot cheaper and faster to do the swap. I dont know much about the 1.8 motor but i dont think there is much out there that you can do for performance parts. The only way you can really get there for the money is puttin nitrous on the car and then your askin for trouble.

Good Luck!!! Len:thumb:

Also for got to add if you do the swap you will need motor, trans, and ecu or the front end clip. There are a lot of places that sale 4g63t packages. Also just by swapping the motor you will be at your goal from the start. With a couple performance parts you can hit 250 to 300 HP easy, and be runnig mid to low 13's. Even 12's depending on the mods.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't touch a thing on it yet. Do your research. You have a good reliable daily driver. Going the 4g63t route many times requires that you also have a banger to get around while it is down. Also, what are your skills mechanically and your budget? If you have little money and little skill, then definitely stay away from the 4g63. There are some things you can do for your car but imo, it's not worth spending the extra doh into the 1.8L

I Drive A 92 Eclipse As A Dd The 4g37 Motor In My Opinion Is A Waste If You Are Thinking About A Swap Then Remember The Wiring Harness Pain In The A$$ Need To Pull The Dash And All Its True I Am An Auto Tech By Profession And Love Modifying But I Will Stick To Modifying The 2.2 N/t Instead Good Luck

I personally think you shouldve got the turbo version. Easier to boost HP if wanted with simple little mods!!!

The 4g63t is the better choice. If you are looking for 150-200hp, the stock turbo Eclipse would've been more than enough. If you wanted even more power later, it wouldn't be hard since it's already turbocharged.

So I picked up a free 1991 1.8 5spd. What should I do with it?.. part it out because the car is in pretty decent shape or 4g63t swap?.....I'm just looking for opinions on what other people would do with it... I drive a 2g and the parts aren't of much use to me , but who could turn down a free dsm?

The 4G63 swap is not simple, direct, or easy.
It won't just drop right in.

If it runs, drive it as a DD. If you don't need it, then sell it to someone so they can daily drive it.

There's no sense in parting out a car of low value, especially if it runs. It's worth more running and driving.

the 63 will fit just fine the hardest part well i should say the most pain in the ass part of the swarp is the wireing harness to me as a tech and own one and thinking about the swarp the thaught of pulling the dash to trade out the harness is driving me crazy every thing else is a walk in the park, and imagine i do have a complete harness sitting at the shop just to show you how serious i am about the swarp just waiting to get in the mood
