Alright well after finally deciding not to trade in my car i decided to start puttin money into my white 99 GS with 116000 miles

now before i go any further if you have any "just buy a gs-t/gsx instead" comments i am asking nicely to keep them to yourself. i dont want this to turn into one of those threads or go away from the topic at hand. i have already decided to keep this car and work on it instead of buying another eclipse thanks in advance.

well since spring/summer is rolling around i will start to have alot more money to spend on the car. right now i am on court supervision till like august so what i plan on doin is workin on show now and then in the fall work on go.

For show i plan on getting some black rims, suspension, carbon oem hood, new projectors, hid kit, i have a new front bumper which i plan on replacing in two weeks cause since i am ordering the headlights and hid kit i should have them all at the same time, and then i plan on respraying the car white.

now when it comes to the go part of the project i plan on just goin all out and getting a hahn racecraft stage II kit. now i know thats a pretty popular kit for the 420a (at least around here, especially since i live so close to hahn racecraft) and since it comes with just about everything i need...

i was wondering on the reliabilty in it. i know my car has alot of miles on it but how often are cars with that many miles turbo'd succesfully? i just recently got the whole head replaced.

now what else would i have to worry about since the kit says no other internal work will have to be done since everything need comes with the kit?

if taken care of what should i expect in life expectency?

i am really excited and i cant wait to get the ball rollin on this so your guys feed back is greatly appreciated :) thanks in advance

First thing i would do is check the compression on the motor.. That will tell you if the car is ready and able to handle a turbo kit. ;)

if you want to push any reasonable amount of boost you are going to need to get new rods and pistons. the stockers are only good to around 8 psi if that. also a new clutch would help with the added power.

If you plan on going all out why not build the bottom end. Obviously you dont need to but with that many miles theres no reason not to. I mean you upgrade that you dont have to worry about engine failure due to high mileage and if you do it right you can run more boost = more power. It's not cheap but in your boat I would personally hightly recommend it.
Also, any car you put high performance parts on is going to break more frequently then something OEM / Stock.. especially if you drive it like you stole it.

if its not up to par what would it involve to fix it ? cost wise? not that cost is too much of a big deal since i am already expectng to pay for the whole turbo/labor.....

i could always hold off right? i mean i know it'd probably be better just to take care of it all at once but it would be fine regardless as long as i dont boost to high?

i trust myself just gradually boostin higher and higher as i feel comfortable. kinda like a bike with training wheels ya kno?

yeah i was lookin at bottem end kits that are sold. as far as turboing the car goes ill will probably do that in feb. when i get my bonus check from work. this year i get 5% of what ever i gross so i should get a pretty good check :thumb: and plus i have an arcade cabinet i wanna sell (marvel vs capcom 2 best game ever!!!!!)

so yeah maybe by then ill have the motor all built up and what not :)

Low compression is *usually* bad rings.. And if you are going to replace rings might as well get rods and pistons that will take the boost.

ah good deal....i'll have to do some searching and find out where i can go get a compression test done....

man i am so excited about this!!!! i can wait to be boostin. the sound of that turbo is gonna be sweet.....:dsm:

Just do it yourself.. The compression tester is like 20$ at sears.

Personally, I would save up more and build the block first, then install the turbo kit along with all the supporting mods. It's well worth it knowing your engine is built for the power you plan on making.

I actually went through the same situation as you. From my personal experience I did all the fancy body kit, wheels, projectors, etc first...then bought the turbo kit. After it was all said and done I wish I would have left the thing bone stock exterior and built the bottom end to support more boost.

You'll think 8 psi is awesome first then you'll want more and more. If you have compression problems go ahead and build the bottom end. If your tight on money just stick to 8 psi then if it ever goes, hopefully you will have saved up.

As for your exterior mods, only one that you really need is suspension...the other stuff can wait

When i said "do it yourself" i wasn't referring to making your own compression tester, i meant just compression test it yourself.

I saw a few posts on building one a while back. I already had vacuum tester up to 15 PSI for the BLT... It seemed to work fine, just pieced together funny (JB Weld can seal anything...).

Just buy a 20$ one at sears? I don't get what's the huge deal about it? It's something that you want an accurate reading on, not something with jbweld on.

Best way to do is to work from the inside out, if your going to run a turbo kit it is best to make sure your car can handle it. Plus you won't have to worry about taking the motor out again to rebuild the bottome end so it'll be wise to do it while it'll be out the first time. I learned that the hard way, taking out motors multiple times is definitly stressful...LOL. Making sure the car is in good maintenence form is good too.:thumb:
