Well, I'm ordering the VRS SS Turboback exhaust with the 3 inch o2housing that matches up to the stock turbo. I definitely plan on changing the turbo in the future but not soon. My question is, if i'm shooting for 400whp on a gsx, is there a turbo that is good that will bolt up to a stock style O2 housing? I prefer garrett ball bearing turbo's but if another is recommended then I will consider it.

I don't mind changing the manifold to fit it either but I want to retain the VRS O2 housing.

Thanks.:thumb:

can that turbo make the 400whp on a 97 gsx though? I thought pushing a 16g that high was not the best move?

thats what i mean, with the vrs o2 housing its a stock fitting piece, so a 20g would fit on it?

Any turbo with a mitsubishi flanged turbine housing should fit, the exceptions being the FP 30 series turbos, which come with a V-band outlet. Also, the Evo III can make 400 whp, but will it be easy? No, not really, I think if you want an easier 400 whp you should look into the 50 trim, the 20g variants, pretty much any turbo that flows a bit over 40 lb/min should meet your goals.

If you want a turbo that's capable of 400whp and is BB i would go with the PTE SC5031RE. It will bolt right up.

thanks for the good info. With the turbos mentioned, I have to change the exhaust manifold to use them right? Or is there an adapter kit?

sounds good, 20g isnt ball bearing but might be the way to go for simplicty and cost. I havent checked that other ball bearing turbo out yet that was mentioned but ill give it a look
