Hey guys,
First off just wanted to say great site. It's already helped me out a ton since I purchased my '95 Talon TSi AWD with questions.
I used the search but couldn't exactly find an article on this. I apologize if I missed it, as I do try to search for everything before I post, hence this being my first post.
The person I bought the car from put an ACT 2100 into it, but did not adjust it at all. Basically I go to push the clutch down and it disengages almost at the floor. I'm not exactly used to this and was wondering how to adjust one of these. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, but can get by. He said that there was a rod you could twist or something?
Any help is extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Clutch rod adjustment.

Basically, if you get in a pornographic postion under your dash and follow your clutch pedal up to the firewall, youll notice a rod running into the firewall.
With a 14mm wrench you can hold the assembly from spinning (furthest from the firewall, closest to the clutch pedal) and use a 12mm (right next to it - closest to the firewall) to loosen the stop nut.

Now you should be able to spin that rod freely. Youre going to want to spin it, so the rod goes further into the firewall (well, clutch master cylinder) which would be counterclock wise.

Someone correct me if Im wrong, sometimes I get things like that backwards. :p

Thanks guys, I'll be trying that out tomorrow then.

So I want to spin it towards the firewall though? Wouldn't that make my clutch disengage even further to the floor? Correct me if I'm wrong cause I'm not a mechanic by any means. Just seems that spinning it towards the floor would make it even shorter than what it already is. And right now I basically feel it disengage when it's almost right on the floor. Thanks!

It can be confusing!

Spinning it towards the firewall (into the clutch master cylinder) will mean the clutch will have to move less to push on the pressure plate.
OR
Spinning the rod in will displace the fluid sooner meaning it will disengage the clutch earlier.

Im not a very good teacher. :p

Haha, you're a fine teacher :). I'm just trying to wrap my head around this.

So moving it in will actually make the clutch disengage at a higher point and give more "slack" between the disengage point and the floor. I think I got it right :D

Thanks absolute_DSM, much appreciated. Oh and I was told to make sure I don't move it too far or else the clutch will always be putting pressure in and burn out my clutch. Anyway to know when far is too far? Thanks absolute_DSM :D

P.S- I'll try to get some pictures into my profile when I can find a camera WTF.

You can adjust the clutch with the car off. No need to start it.

Just loosen up that nut, spin the rod a few times, then get up and push on it to feel the difference. Keep spinning the rod until you got it where you want it. Tighten up the nut and test drive it.

Repeat if needed.

Youll be able to feel when its at the right height. If its difficult to get in gear when the car is running, then you probably dont have it engaging "high" enough. If the clutch wants to slip when you give her hell, you probably dont have it "low" enough. Its pretty simple. Use your foot to get the best feel and adjust as needed.

Again, I may have that backwards :p

Thanks for that, I now have a picture to stick with absolutes advice :D.

Now to just get into my pornographic position and turn ;).

yeah i gotta do the same thing..LOL.. let me know how everything goes since I can't work on my car right now because i'ts cold as hell here in Green Bay.. Maybe that's why i can't get my car into gear sometimes..Not because it's cold but because I didn't adjust it. I changed my slave and master cylinder when i did my clutch and i have to push the pedal all the way to the bottom to get it into gear. I guess we learn something everyday.

ASSUME THE POSITION MY BOY!!! OMG

Of course, turn the car off so you can spin the rod freely. if its not spinning freely, I like to use a pair of locking pliers to turn it. Good luck.

As long as the clutch doesnt engage right of the floor your fine. You want more than 2inches from the floor. You also dont want it to engage at the top of the clutch pedal

Right now it seems like it's engaging as soon as you let off.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll let you know the outcome :).

Less time on the Boyz-N-Toys.com site, eh? If you associate pain and agony with porn, then I suppose you could think of contorting up under the pedal assembly with some kind of smut.

Ha. I still consider myself young and in shape - so its not painful, just an ackward position.
