I was just driving around normal when my car started to shake and kind of hop like there was a flat tire. I looked under it and my cv boot had come off and the cv axle looked messed up......I got it towed home and then found out that the drivers side motor mount is broken.(the bolts just broke in half)......how hard is this to fix......im guessing you have to jack up the motor and drill out the old bolts and such.......anyone know about how much it would run at a shop also?(its about 10 degrees here for a high)
thanks

How much? I can't answer that being as I have always done this kind of thing myself. Yes you will have to jack the motor up, but just enough to support it. Be sure to utilize the jack when lining the bolt holes back up once you get the bolt holes clear.

Most average mechanics charge anywhere from $20-50 per hour, depending on how good they think they are. On the motor mount bolts, I have had a hard time locating just the bolt outside of the dealership and salvage yard unless you purchase a whole new mount kit. Be sure to ask if the bolt is included.

A motor mount swap and a CV axle swap are generally easy when you have done it before. It takes a while the first time when you are unfamiliar with the process of it.

For the mount, raise the car and put it on jackstands. Use a jack to support your engine. Clear some space around your mount to get to your bolts. If you are nervous about removing something and putting it back correctly, then don't. They sell jointed tools and extensions for this. Make sure the broken bolt is completely free from anything that might keep it in place (nut, bracket) and use something that can push it out (screwdriver and hammer). Then reverse the process using the jack to line up the bolt hole.

Cv axles can be removed by taking off the wheel, freeing up any parts that hold the spindle in place, removing the castle nut with an impact tool (be sure to get a new cotter pin). Then remove the CV axle shaft from the spindle (will probably need to use something for leverage). Remove the axle from your tranny. Make sure you buy all of the seals and small pieces along with the CV axle so you don't have to leave the car up.

Good luck!

alright cool....thanks for the help...............i read some articles about the axle/cv removal but I was just unsure about the motor mount........I will probably give it a try tomorrow and see if i can get the broken bolts out
