my buddy just bought a 90 laser and put a new motor in it , its runnig way rich, i think its because hes runnig a 92 ecu it seems to be dumping fuel like crazy can someone please thanks
 
its because you need to change the wires for the ecu around....6 has to swap with 14 i have to do the same.....but if not try some new wires..plugs.......and after that i have no clue
 
you can smell it , fouls out the spark plugs with in minites , fail smog test hc should be at 220 it was at 4567 and theres no boost leaks
 
Since the '90 ECU's are different from the later 1g's, there's a few things that you need to do.

You can use one from a '91-'93 (steve said once on here to stay away from the '94 ones as California had added EGR hardware and if you run that in a federal car, you could run into some problems - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/273369-1g-ecu.html#post151307278). The ECU difference by itself wont cause it to dump fuel like that. Perhaps the engine coolant sensor is dead and the ECU thinks it's -30F outside. It has to dump a lot of fuel when it's that cold to get some of it to vaporize. There could be other sensors acting up as well. Logging it would help provide some idea whats going on.

The two pins that swapped are the MAF reset line and the Idle Position Switch, Not seeing the IPS close have an impace on getting the car to idle but I would think it would cause it to be so rich even after it warmed up.
 
I had the same problem a month ago with a friends car. We put a ECU out of a 93 car into his car 91. It dumped fuel like crazy and was fowling the plugs left and right. Got the right ecu for the car and fixed the problem. Have no idea why it done it.

Perhaps you put a NA or automatic ECU into a manual car.

Without the specifics this is just noise.
