Cost of a blown 14b???

If it's blown, chances are good that the compressor wheel may have suffered damage at the hands of the compressor inlet/housing. Even then, you're going to need to get your CHRA balanced after you put the new compressor wheel on.

Wrong. 14B's come from the factory component-balanced only....meaning you could actually swap an undamaged 14B compressor onto an undamaged TD05H turbine and it would be balanced as well as it was when it was new.

I've built turbos for years assuming this theory was correct- including those on my own cars- without a single balance-related issue.

Understandable. But it's my belief that after 14-18 years of use, the compressor wheel and fins might be damaged/chipped/bent enough to become out of balance. I only recommend balancing as a safety precaution, regardless if it's necessary or not.

Mine had an exhaust valve pass through it*, and eventually stop the turbine from spinning. I took it apart, removed the valve, and it was fine for longer than 3 months. My engine died again, so we'll find out how much longer when I get it back together.

For reference, I told the previous owner about the valve inside the turbo and having to take it apart when it stopped making boost. He said, and I quote
"No, no, just hit with hammer. Bam bam, three or four times. Turbo all better for weeks." Yup, he said that.

Disclaimer: I like to live life on the edge (I also have a very reliable bicycle), and I can't recommend anything I do to my car to anyone else. :D

*The whole valve did apparently pass through the turbine housing, just in pieces. Parts of it were in the cat and it eventually reassembled to be a complete valve.

My friend has a blown 14b and i was going to buy it and put the compressor wheel on my good turbo. so what should I give hime for it??

Are you talking about the one iwanegofast scattered? Man GOOD Luck. When that nut came off and the shaft traveled the odds of it eating the hot side along with the cold side are HIGH.:sosad:
