1G Problems starting up...

Hey guy ive been out the dsm world here for a little bit and looking to buy my old baby back 91 tsi fwd. The owner fixed all the vacuum line problems that i couldnt and some other stuff. Says sometimes it takes a few cranks before it fires up and when its cold it takes a little more. Idles a little bit odd when cold but when warmed up boosts to 8psi just fine. He thinks it could be the regulator or the fuel pump do you guys have any other ideas or is he pretty much right? He knows his dsms and i want to trust him but i dont want to dump more money into it Well help me out guys! Thanks ahead of time!

I would check the coolant temp sensor first. It should have 5v going to it and then it should vary the voltage going back to the ECU depending on the temp.

I talked to the owner of the car now and he said it takes a few times before the car fires up, i read in the forums that if the coolant temp sensor wires are bad or dis connected it wont let the car start or it will take it a few cranks before it gets going so i think ive found my culprit im going to ask him if he has checked it or what thanks guys for the help maybe ill have my dsm bacK!
