So I posted another thread about my car not being able to start because I thought that the engine wasn't getting any spark. But my friend that's a mechanic took a look at the car and told me that it was most certainly my mass air flow sensor or a module that was not working properly. He said that this does happen unfortunately out of the blue and told me to do some research about the MAFs. So, problem diagnosis: car cranks, new plugs, no ignition but almost certain its not a problem with my coil pack/wires. I was looking all over the site about MAFs and people are talking about GM mafs and not even having one at all and I simply could not find info about how much they are to replace, or even how to check if it's broken. I most definitely need some help.

I seriously believe the car would run without the Maf. The other day I took off my Maf and intake. When I put it back on, I forgot to plug it in. The car started up fine and ran good until it warmed up. Once warm, the idle was going up and down. I'm not sure if a faulty one would cause a no start. Try unplugging it then, try to start it.

Just unplug it from the manifold right? I've read a couple bulletins where people ran successfully without a MAFs so I'm wondering if that is a possible route that I can take instead of buying a replacement one..

which route would I go to get the cheapest fix? a stock replacement or getting a different one..I've heard about GM MAFs and all these other fancy things. Also can you tell me what a MAF translator does..I'm assuming it just translates codes and things so that you can read em and tune..no idea LOL

Depends on your plans for the car . I would , if possible switch out for a friends mas to see if it works . Otherwise a stock replacement is fine .

I don't have any friends that own dsms..so I don't think i can switch out the mas for the car. I can only hope to replace it and fix the problem then and there. If the mas is broken will it trigger a CEL

Here is where you unplug it , top of pic .

if the car wont start check your cold start its below the water neck should have a 2 prong plug going to it.mine went bad and it took the car forever to start..just my .2cents

crap man, it's looking like it's not the mas now. my plugs are fine, my coil pack is fine, did the test and saw sparks. um, the fuel delivery is good, nothing wrong with my fuel pump. I'm now thinkig that it's the Cam position sensor. Has anyone ever dealt with one?

Make sure the firing order is correct... if it is run a compression test and cross your fingers as you hope for good numbers. Good luck :dsm:

The cam position sensor measures the rotation of the cam and tells the coil when to fire and on what cylinder. I would take an ohm meter and test the cam position sensor. When you looked for spark of the coil did you check all of the plugs or just one? The coil may be firing on one cylinder but not another.
