Hi guys! I recently had my timing belt done and I saw the front motor mount broken. The metal holding the bolt on the motor is broken and is hanging on the bolt itself. I read in some other posts that it could be welded however a guy I know said that it couldnt be done since it wouldnt be strong enough. So ive set my sights on finding a new motor. Ive looked around and a short block would cost $550 while the long block is $850. Do you guys think I can buy a cheaper used short or long block?

I also live in the Detroit area so are there any shops who can do the swap for me? I know a guy and he said he would charge me around 600 bucks for the job. Is this a good price?

Some people recommended just selling the car and getting a new one. However my transmission is awesome and I just spent 1g replacing the driveshafts, carrier bearings, timing belt and drive belts. What do you guys think?

I would rig something up, maybe find a new place to mount it or just weld it. I know for a while one of my motor mount bolts was m.i.a., and i honestly couldn't tell the difference.

Yeah, I agree with the above posts. I don't think you picking up a new motor would be the best way to fix the motor mount. Find someone who can do a decent welding job and fix her up!

My brother has a mig welder and I have a mapp gas welder. Do you think a mig welder would do? would it change the properties of the block?

mig is cleaner, but stick welds hold better. find a professional welder that can weld you up something, shouldnt be too expensive if you make it easy for him to do. but like said before a "good" weld is ALWAYS stronger than the metal around it. take 2 small pieces of metal and weld them together, it should always break around the welds in the metal (when trying to break it of course) than down the weld or where the weld has melted to the metal. dont waste your money on a new motor....thats silly. find someone who knows what the hell their doing./

its the block thats broken. Ill post a pic in the morning. Theres a piece of the block stuck to the bolt that was screwed in the block. The guy who helped me with the timing belt says its been like that for a long time because of the rust around the bolt.

I would definately inspect the other three mounts . You should be fine on three as long as they are strong and secure . My question would be , how did it break off .

the guy said its probably because the bolt that was used was too big for the hole. so should a mig weld work on this? The piece of block that came off is very small. Im just worried that the missing support would damage the 3 remaining motor mounts.

It will cause more stress on the other three . If you trust someone enough , get it repaired . I know nothing of welding so I can not help you there . But if the person welding should know which would hold/ be strongest .
