What does unstake mean?

I Googled "un-stake" and found several articles for various staked nuts and various ways to remove them. I don't know if one of the methods is more preferable to others for this particular task, so I'm not going to recommend one. Some say to bend the bent (staked) part back out, others say to chisel the staked part off (and replace the nut), others say use an impact socket to get the staked nut off. I'd search to get more info, though.

Send a PM to dsmcrazyspiff on here. He is the shop manager for Shep and a generally nice guy. I bet you would be able to give you quick reply on what needs to be done.

When a nut is staked it is basically dented into a groove that way it can't back out.

It's personal preference if you want to reuse the nuts, I have in the past. I just "unstake" them with a chisel or punch and run them off.

If a piece of the nut breaks off when you unstake it then I would consider buying a new one, otherwise I don't see a problem reusing them.

Make sure those nuts are tight before you stake them, those are the ones known for causing 5th gear engagment issues.
