I searched but couldnt find what I was looking for.

I got this Idea from my brother. He is a honda guy but im not.

He has a 2 1/2 pipings and a stock exhaust, and it sounds kinda nice for a honda.

Did anybody ever try to do this in a dsm? I want my car look stock as possible but with mods. Im thinking on going with a 3'' straight pipe. from o2 housing all the way to the stock exhaust and no cat or resonator.

What does it sound like? Feel any difference? I dont like those big fart cans.:D

Why would you want to compromise performance. I think it is just stupid to go from a 3" exhaust down to whatever the stock exhaust size is. It would be a waste of money to do it. The only thing close to that I would do is find one of the 3" exhausts that used to be made that look like stock. Machv used to sell them but the company doesn't make them anymore last I knew.

What you mean?

sorry its early and I reread your question excuse my hastyness for some reason I thought you where talking about smic piping 3inches. It beats the purpose of going bigger piping if you going to narrow it down to stock, thats like probation hey your free but your still restricted from doing stuff. I personally feel that if its purpose is to free air and is joined up to a 3inch cat or turbo-back then its not a fart can.

Since you dont like the look of a "fart can", magnaflow makes mufflers that look close to stock and you will be able to get a 3 inch inlet to the muffler. Thus no loss in performance and it will sound good.

Kinda what i got. But i put headers on with 3" outlet on them.

I replaced all my piping with 3" and a ebay muffler. Sounds loud, but not too bad.

Cost me like $100.00 for the pipe and $35.00 for the muffler. And the headers of course. Kinda cheap compared to others buying expensive cat-backs or whole exhaust systems.

But what ever you do, don't waste your money on 3" piping if your gonna reduce it back down to fit your OEM exhaust manifold. That's just silly.

He is thinking about hooking it up to the stock exhaust at the rear of the car. The exhaust on his car, unlike yours, does not go directly to the manifold since his is turbo.

Is there any way I can make my stock work with the 3'' pipings. Like opening it up and gutting the inside of it. and making the inlet pipe bigger.

can some post up a picture of the magnaflow or the vibrant, installed on the car.

I think your 3 Inch Straight pipes would work. I would go that to my GST Spyder but Police are dicks around here.

Or you could just let the stock muffler hang in its factory position, and have the exhaust just end a little short (before the factory muffler). I'd then even gut out the stock muffler, so it isn't just a bunch of extra wieght. Now that'd look stock! (LOL maybe not sound stock)

This is what I'll be doing on my car, to be honest I don't really care about losing the 5hp or whatever that would result from keeping the stock muffler. 3" piping, no cat, stock muffler. Looks stock, sounds stock, works for me :)

To the OP, check out the McCord power plates. They're pretty nifty, maybe something that would work for you.

got my eyes on a 3' turbo back with 02 sensor eliminator from vrs exhaust kind kinda pricy like 800.00 stainless steel but sounds great comes with magnaflow muffler sweet deep soung but dont expect to still hear that turbo spooling LOL

Your stock exhaust pipes are 2 1/4" in diameter. If you're going to go through the trouble and expense of modifying your exhaust at all, it's not worth keeping a poor designed factory system. The idea is to go bigger and reduce the number of bends in the system for better flow. Go with a full 2.5" setup - downpipe, high flow cat, and cat-back exhaust. You likely won't need 3" and you definitely don't need a fart can tip. You can have a local muffler shop make a cat-back for you using a Magnaflow muffler and keep the stock look for a lower price than most systems available online. A 2.5" system will be quieter, cheaper, and will give you all the flow you'll need unless you're trying to make 500hp.

If you try and keep your stock exhaust you're going to waste your money on a setup that will result in inferior performance.

My plan for this car is a 300hp DD with the stock 7bolt motor. but its going to be awhile till I reach my goals for this car. First thing Im going to do is the exhaust, after that, later on the road, a bigger turbo, intercooler and some supporting goods. I want it stock looking cause you know the police here in san jose are. LOL
