Well I think its time to buy a Multi-Meter. But after seeing all the different options and styles I ended with no meter but with many questions. My question is: what is a good multi-meter to get, what options should I look for, what price range, and what brands. Also I don’t want to waste a ton of money for something I will probably use 2-3 times in a year

The fluke meters are very good and very nice but very $$. the craftsman's meter is not too bad. I wouldn't touch the radioshack junk with a 10 feet pole.

well am having a no start problem and i want to test the cas and other sensors. thats pretty much what i need one for. so you guys say a basic cheap multi-meter will work for most of the test the book shows you how to do

What up man, well the fluke 88v is the best out there but it cost me like 500.00, but iI work as a bentley tech so I use it all the time "electrical stuff" so much fun ofln. Any ways if you are just going to use it once in awhile I would get a craftsman.

Thanks guys I truly appreciate all the input sorry for being so ignorant in this subject. i guess I will go and buy the craftsman's unit from sears. Its only 20 dollars if it’s a bad choice oh well I have wasted more on retarded thing.

If you are not an electronics technician and not using it everyday to do your work just buy an inexpensive one (not the Fluke). Just like the one from Wallmart.^^^

Well said. My advice as well. As an engineer who used to work on Avionics, I would used a fluke only, but then I wanted high accuracy and reliability. If you just want to know the voltage with 15% of accuracy, the cheapy is just fine.

Actron makes a nice multimeter just for cars. It is great for people who are new to multimeters cause is really hard to blow up. It measures things like ignition dwell, rpm's,ohm's,voltage and a bunch of other stuff. You can find one at advanced for $50.

The Flukes are the most accurate and most trusted multimeter. You dont need a Fluke 88 for car applications, a 77 will work just find. Check propertyroom.com for good prices on multimeters, it is a auction site. Most of the stuff is from police seiazures and you can get some really good deals on there. Ultimitely any multi-meter will work but Fluke is by far the best, and the only one I will use on my car since the other ones can be off, in some cases .001volts can make a difference in the reading.
