Im thinking of getting a 6 bolt from a guy I know. He is offering his 6 bolt that has been sitting around for a while, head, intake, some random interior/exterior parts, 4 17" team loco wheels in good condition with used bfg race tires, and a few other random parts laying around. He wants 500 for everything which I thought wasn't that bad. I just am wondering what should I do to the block once I get it. I know it will most likely have to be machined and he said the same thing (it is not in terrible condition tho it has just been sitting around for a while) I was thinking of having it honed/hot tanked all the shit but i dont know exactly what to get on it. Im planning on building it to upwards of 500 whp eventually

Durrently my car has ran a 12.6 at best (right now it has bad fuel cut and i think i possibly am missing one of the injector seals thats probally why) but i will probably keep my current 7 bolt in my car and get the 6 bolt on a stand (anyone selling one? LOL) and just slowly build it up...so I'm thinking of spending maybe 4-5 grand on it over the course of a year. Personally I was thinking of these as some of the major things I need.

1. a 50 trim turbo or one of the bigger FP turbos.
2. FFWD 1050 injectors / FFWD hi-flow fuel system
3. Magnus or a similiar SMIM
4. DV/DT Fab FMIC? what you guys think too expensive or worth the money?
5. Wiseco Pistons/ Eagle rods
6. FFWD DSK2 cams (272/272's)
7. Upgraded springs an retainers...dont know what to go with though....
8. Tial BOV/Tial Wastegate
9. Upgraded exhaust mani

Those are the main things I can pull off of the top of my head right now...i'm sure im missing some stuff though...

But basically I am just wondering what I should do with the block once i take it to to get machined... I've heard of honed, blueprinted, balanced, hot tanked, but got no clue what to do....

I am also curious as to what all should/needs to be done to a block and head by the machine shop. There are a lot of terms being thrown around. I'd assume that the machine shop should have a good idea what should be done and could help you understand it all as well.

Here is a thread that was just started that has a bunch of good info on this topic:

it all depends on how far you want to go with it. blueprinting and all that is for the real seriuos people along with oringing the block and decking. but for me im just getting it hot tanked bored .20 and honed. now if the walls are in good shape with no nicks in them from the rings the least you could do is just get it cleaned and honed and then buy stock bore pistons but thats if your really tight on money.

now as for the head, if your going all out on that well you would go ahead and clean it get it ported a lil have them machine the seats over 1mm not to mention milling the head (which is basically decking). buy imm oversize valves with new valve locks, stem seals and bronze guides. as for springs well it depends on how for you wanna rev it out now for me i bought brian crower single springs with titanium retainers and im reving out to 8. but if your gonna rev the s@# out of it then buy kiggly duals with retainers.

Hey thanks for the reply. Ya with the head, I plan to take the one off of my 2g when I do it. The 2g head i have now currently has been ported on intake and exhaust I believe but I am still running the stock cams and springs/retainers. Do you think he would have to port it again or would the integrity of the head be a problem?

thers no need to port it again, its not like it wears out or anything. just leave it and build the head.
