Ok so I was driving and went to put it into fourth and it wouldn't go in, same with third. So i stoped and couldn't get into any gear. But when i turn the car off i can and i can start in first gear and drive (and shift to second w/o ginding if rpms are right). I've extended the master cylinder as far as possible, and bled the clutch three times now, still won't work. the clutch fork looks ok and the slave moves it when the clutch is pushed. What could it be?

Could possibly be clutch master cylnder crawl under the dash and look for any fluid leaking underneath it. Another possiblity could be clutch adjusment, if not them im gonna have to say syncro's

its not the syncros, I had this happen last winter. my clutch fork went bye bye and snapped in half. Has the car ever had a clutch job, and is it running a stiffer clutch. If yes and the car is higher mileage I will more than garantee that it broke, mine bent one for and broke one off so I couldnt really freely move the fork but was able to figure it out by repalcing EVERYTHING outside of the tranny to try fixing it. I'd say spend a weekend to drop the tranny and check it, and if not I would replace it with the pivot ball anyways. if everything checks out and its not the fork, double check your clutch with the tranny out.

after looking at your car profile I would bet money on it being the clutch fork. good luck

Good post. Get two people, one to look at the clutch throw near the slave and one to pump the clutch. See if it extends the full throw, if it does than more than likely the clutch fork is damaged.

having a smilar problem but if the forks done then would i still be able to shift at certain rpms? but wont go into any gear at a stop with clutch pressed?

Having a transmission go into gear as "certain" RPM's seems accurate, it is called rev matching. When the transmission and flywheel are spinning at the same RPM, a clutch wouldn't "need" to be pressed in, but it isn't great for your transmission by any means.

I've been having a similar problem. In the middle of driving home, I go to put it in first and I feel a pop. I couldn't shift into any gear and my clutch pedal was on the floor.

This is great advice. I found my master and slave were both leaking. Replaced them both and installed an SS clutch line. Didn't solve my problem but, my clutch pedal did return from the dead. I've bled the system for 4 days straight. Still can't shift. I spoke with Jerry and Sean over at FFTEC and let them know the situation. They're concensus was that my clutch fork was most likely damaged or broken. I was already arriving at the same conclusion. Tranny is coming out next weekend. I'll post the results.:dsm:

I had the exact same problem. The clutch fork moved when I pressed the clutch and so forth. I replace the master cylinder and it all worked fine. My bet is the master cylinder.

I had the same problem when I was home on leave, went to shift couldn't get it into gear lucky for me I was right where I was stayin had my car towed to a shop the next day and everything looked fine till he took my tranny out and what did he find ..... broken fork that looked good from the bottom but snapped right at the pivot ball

I already replace the master and slave cylinder on the car with new oem parts and its a new throwout bearing and clutch so? clutch fork

Hey thanks for the advice everyone. the master cylinder should be fine, i just replaced it and the slave about a month ago and put a ss line on it. I guess i'll have to drop the tanny and check out the clutch fork this weekend. Thanks again :)

I had the same thing happen, my clutch puked a spring and it jammed between the clutch and pressure plate, the fork still moved but I was probably just bending it. and you start the car in gear and drive, does it disengage when you press the clutch pedal in? mine would not.

it really sounds like a clutch fork, and I was able to switch gears with the car turned off, the clutch only allows the tranny to disconnect from the power of the engine, and when the car is turned off it doesnt matter about a clutch at all. Oh and if it works rep points please :D

i'd say do the oem one unless you plan on running a super stiff clutch. I havent had any problems with it and a 2600, and alot of people on 2900's are running the oem clutch fork to. Its just a simple thing that is forgotten about when clutch jobs are done and then it breaks and screws with people. Oh if it was the fork, rep points please :D
