Well I picked up a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD for a great deal. The engine has been missing the head since 1999 maybe 2000. Oil was poured into each cylinder and has been sitting ever since. Is there anyway to test and see if the block ceased?
 
Turn the harmonic balancer bolt with a ratchet and socket.

If its been out in the open that long without a head, I would tear down and rebuild. There could be a lot of things you cant see there.
 
I have another question I got the head that came with car, the camshafts are a little rusty but maybe worth saving. Some of the valves are rusty, but it looks to be mainly surface rust. What is a good rust remover? I want to clean them up and take them shop to se if there worth saving.
 
Is the cam rust on the lobes or just the cast areas? It's only an issue if the lobes are rusted enough to be pitted, making weak spots that can wear badly & cause failure. Try wiping the lobes with a clean rag soaked in PB Blaster or ATF; if they rub clean you should be good to go. Any signs of pitting & I would reject them for a set of aftermarket cams to suit my needs. If the surface rust doesn't come right off with the rag, you might try lightly rubbing them with 0000 steel wool or fine scuff pads (keep flooding the surface with oil or ATF to float away any debris) to see if that will remove the rust w/o damaging the lobe surface. I wouldn't try this hard unless I had no choice but to reuse them, though. ;)
 
Well after trying to turn the harmonic balancer bolt with no success I've decided take the block out and selling it as scrap its iron so I should get some money for it. Is it possible for me to take the block without having to remove the tranny?

just becuase it doesnt turn doesnt mean that it cant be re-built.
 
I ###### could rebuild it, but I really dont have the time. Plus theres a local guy selling a engine for $400, if I sell the block and head as scrap I should be able to get at least half of that.
 
Nevermind, I search and found out its not a great idea. Rebuilding the engine is still an option, but got it out first. Thanks for everyones help.

ROFL you MIGHT get $20 for scrap out of that!
You would be dumb to scrap a spare engine even if its junk.You would be better of selling it to someone in need of a rebuildable block for $50-$100 if your luckey enough to find such a person.

Go get a job or sell your wii and buy the used junk 7 bolt and put it in.

For the cost of all the swapping you could have a mild built engine that could handle some boost,besides the fact you would KNOW what you had.

If you dont know how to check to see if its seized then you dont know how to even pull the motor,how are you going to go about this?
 
Put it in the classifieds section or even stick it on eBay. It won't be long before one of us buys it and puts in the garage with our collection of DSM parts that we just know we're going to use "someday".
