hey guys im fairly new to dsm tuner forums but ive been in the dsm game for about 4 years. Ive got a 90 tsi that is kinda acting funny.I just got the car about a month ago so im tryin to work out all the bugs. When im pulling at full throttle i get to about 6k rpms and it just feel like it wont go any more. the car pulls really well until then but after that it just almost acts like it cant get enough air.it keeps going up just slowly it wont pull to redline like it shiould. im pretty sure its not that though ive got a hard intake pipe and a front mount. ive got stock exhaust on it still. I dont kno if mabey im getting knock and its just retarding the timing but i run 93oct with stock fuel pump but that shouldnt matter im only running 12psi. any suggestions on what to check for and try?

you are probaly stock exhaust? If you get bigger exhaust and do some porting it will help out big time in the top end

already boost leak tested and had nothing. ill check plugs and plug wires. my next upgrade is gonna be exhaust so hopefully one of those will help

Clean your throttle plate. If your running the stock mas, you may want to think about upgrading to a
2g mas or even a maft setup. I would do all of what I said and everything mentioned above before you upgrade your exhaust just to at least determine weather or not all the stuff listed was or was not the issue.

+1 on plugs, 2g mas, throttle cable, and the throttle plate.

Also check your fuel filter and make sure you're not losing a lot of pressure.

If you want to check your knock readings, you'll need some sort of logger. If you can drop a couple of bucks on one (and the cable) it'll be a tremendous help in diagnosing some of the problems.

In what gear are you trying to get to redline? You shouldn't be trying for 5th if you're not sure about the other settings, and I would advise against 4th as well.

wont go to redline in any gear. ill check feul filter and everything else mentioned. my roomate has a 4g63t swapped colt ill grab his logger and see what i get

It sounds to me like you're running out of exhaust flow on the top end with that stock exhaust. She needs to breathe a little better. I'd try to seperate the exhaust up front somewhere and take it for a drive to see if it is any better. It will be loud, but it might be necessary. Anyway, thats what I've seen from my own personal experiences with DSM's.

i had this same problem with my 91... i went and changed spark plugs and put in a 2g maf and it ran fine after that.....
