Starter is not engaging properly

Sounds more like the starter solenoid to me. The starter relay just sends the power to the starter solenoid.

ive tryed 3 different starters LOL this little prob is the only reason i dont have my car on the road and its been getting on my nerves for about a month

Is there a possibility you could have the wrong flywheel installed? The AWD flywheel is shorter in diameter than a FWD, and the teeth may not engage the ring gear.

If the starter appears to be working correctly either something is stopping the starter gear from hitting the flywheel, or it can't reach the flywheel to spin it.

thats the thing it is hitting the flywheel its like the flywheel is to big which isnt possible,,it grinds off the flywheel right before the teeth on it

What he said, has anything been changed?Like a engine swap

90-91 Lasers only came in FWD guys. I was thinking he may have put a new flywheel on, but possibly recieved an AWD instead of a FWD wheel.

Other than that I can't make sense of the issue, the starter bolts hold it in a fixed posistion and the gear should clear the step in front of the ring gear.

Wrong starter plate?
Wrong flywheel?

Something is probably wrong with the ignition switch inside the cabin of your car where you turn the key. Check that out.

I can imagine that the car only clicks right? Click Click Click Click Click Click then start? Check the ignition related stuff.
