Ok I have been leaking oil from the oil filler cap, so I changed it. I am still leaking a little from the filler cap, so I decided to change my PCV. I changed it. Now after reading, I noticed that it is bad (air from both sides). I got a check engine light and the idle sucks. So I put the old one back in. I still have the same problem. I reset the computer (removed battery cable) and after restart, it idles rough and i get a check engine lite. Any help??

Is it an OEM PCV valve or did you get it from Autozone/Carquest, etc? Has to be an OEM valve. The others will leak as badly as the bad one you're replacing. If you got it at Autozone, return it when you get the code read (get your $2 back!)

OBD2 readers don't work with OBD1 cars:cry: A analog volt meter and 2 test leads is all he needs. Pin 12&ground and away he goes.:sneaky:

What about reading the codes manually how do I do that. I was able to remove the PCV with out removing any sensors. Or unplugging anything.

Back to Auto Zone and pick up a Haynes repair manual Pn. 68030 on page 6-9 there is a chapter Obtaining diagnostic code output. It gives the compleat step by step opperation for getting the codes and on the next 2 pages it explanes them. :thumb:

did not unplug any sensor. it was one from autozone. the old one is not bad

Get an OEM PCV valve or install a check valve in-line between the PCV valve and intake manifold. Even better, install a Husky fuel filter without the filter element between the PCV valve and the check valve. Read up about it in the "Stupid PCV question" thread posted by FORMONTOYA.

Checked every auto zone around and no one has a book. Any more info on this will help

Thanks

OK the abbridged verson two test jumper cables a volt meter (analog style a VOM will work) hook up the 2 wires one on pin1 the other on pin12 connect the volt meter to the other end of the jumpers. Tne jumpers are connected to the test termanal just to the right of fuse pannel under the dash.

Turn on the ignition switch and count the number of pulseses. It will start out with at least 1 long pulse followed by short ones.

Count them and get back to us and some one will be able to tell you what it means.

Well thanks so much. I got it last night. I dunno what I did but it is fixed. I started out by replacing the hose, and put the old valve in. It worked. I pressure checked the valve hose and it held pressure. So I dunno what it was but it runs fine. Thanks for all the help. I am sure I will have so more questions later. I appreciate all the help. But I will take the advice and use the check valve option.
