OK well my car isnt starting and we thought it was because the timing belt jumped, we're ###### wrong, but we took apart the whole timing belt assembly, and we found out that i was missing a belt, what problems are caused with out me having this belt? I mean before the car didnt start it had idle surge, adn now it wont start, could the missing belt be the problem?? also do i need this belt?

That looks like where the balance belt goes. It's not a problem to not have it if the balance shafts have been properly eliminated. However since the balance shaft gear is still there and hasn't been replaced with a freeze plug my guess would be that the shaft is still in there.

Here is a link with info on the removal of the balance shafts.
Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit Install

Deffinatly the balance shaft belt is missing. Someone did not do the removal correctly. Either someone took that belt off or it broke and was shreaded into nothing. On the topic of your car not starting what is it doing? Cranking and not starting or not craking at all?

Does you motor have a vibration around 3k rpms? It looks like some one took the balance shaft belt off in a half hearted attempt at B/S removal. You either need to replace that belt.(you might as well do the timing belt while your there, it has to come off anyway to get to the B/S belt. Or you could just do the elimination and get rid of both shafts. Good luck. :)

As stated, the balance belt is not gonna cause it to start. It's just there for engine vibration.

Theres Alot of things that can cause idle surge. Alot in the forums you can search for.

First things first, you have to get it started before fixing the idle problem. We need more information on what you have/ haven't tried to get it started.

Here are some thing i have just done this week to fix my idle surge:
  • New plugs
  • New wires
  • Fixed 3 vacuum leaks
  • New fuel filter

And still had the dam problem. Finally took off the TB to inspect the IAC and TPS and found them to be covered in carbon. Cleaned them with cleaner and cleaned out IM, and runs like a top.

Once you get it running check these things and some more. But also what causes this is the cam/crank sensors. Now one of them could be bad and this is why it will not start.

Did you have any codes before it crashed?

BTW, here is the link that works. CLICK HERE

Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit Install

You do know according to vfaq that is for "1G 2.0". So are you saying this set up will for 2g
also?

alright well i will probably just put on a belt there instead of doing the eliminator kit. but your saying the only thing that will happen if i dont have it on is that the car will vibrate? hmm... anyway i already had a different thread about my car not starting...we pretty much narrowed it down to the CAS sensor. But we are not for sure. Thanks guys for all your help!!!

You don’t have to remove the front balance shaft when doing the balance shaft elimination. The previous owner prob did the removal but left the front balance shaft in and cutting the belt. The other counter balance shaft he removed is behind the oil pump/front case. The front shaft will cover the oil supply holes for the font balance shaft. If the belt isnt there and there isnt a bad vibration, then he prob removed it.
