What is the difference between a v band dp and a regular one?

I am new to all of this stuff, I bought a dsm and am just trying to finish off my exhaust. Just courious what is so special about them. Thanks for all the help.

A v band downpipe doesn't use a traditional gasket and 2 bolts to connect it with the exhaust piping. It uses a special clamp called a v band clamp that has no need for a gasket and provides a better seal. Just look up v band clamp on Google and you can find out more info about the clamps.

I'm alittle curious also about them. So they look just like t-clamps?

As you can see in this picture, there are the two pieces and then the clamp itself. Those two pieces would get welded on. One would be on the end of the downpipe and one would be on the end of the exhaust, where it met up with the downpipe. Then, as you can see, the tops of those extra pieces are smaller than the base of them. These parts both go inside the clamp. This helps to make a very good seal.

The only problem with them is they are very expensive.

They're awesome for constant connecting/disconnecting of the downpipe for racing events or engine removal because there's no gasket required. Plus there's no distortion or warping of the flanges, and the tighter you make them, the better they seal!

If you add up the amount of downpipe gaskets you'll buy/have bought over the years, you probably could've bought a v-band and had it welded in long ago!

Hmm. Interesting, Are the ebay ones anygood? Or are their any other places you guys recommed to buy them from? I'm about to redo my exhaust and am thinking about it.

I bought couplers from them, and they started to fall apart within a year. Not saying there v-band clamps will, just stating a fact.

Not sure what couplers they carry, but most of their exhaust components are from Vibrant, which are known for making nice quality exhaust components. I have V bands on my external wastegate & my O2 housing, they work great. They seem fairly expensive but when you figure you normally need 2 flanges (& a gasket), which ends up being around 2/3's the cost of a Vband setup.
