when i am driving me 95 GSX(just got it) it spits out of first gear when its under back load like if i leave it in first and the load causes it to kick out(like when you down shift that kinda of load)
the ckutch does slip in the car bad it needs a new one

is my trany broken also? or could it just be the clutch? if i hold it in first then its fine

Probably a bent shift fork or worn out gears where the sides of them lock together. Might be time for a tranny rebuild. I know if i don't get mine all they way in 1st (there's 2 clicks when going in i can feel) if i don't get it in that second "click" it will spit out of 1st as soon as i take off.

You'll probably need to go through the trans or send it off to be rebuilt, and put a new clutch and resurface the flywheel at the same time.

Worn shift fork pads most likely. I'd first replace the worn shifter bushings on the tranny side with one of the solid steel bushing kits. That extra little play from the stockers could keep a marginal tranny from getting full engagement of the synchro hub slider assembly.

Thanks

Quick test. Turn the car OFF. Now activate the shifter DIRECTLY on the tranny itself with the hood popped up. You may have to activate one lever to move the shifter assembly while moving the other lever to shift into 1st/2nd gear. You might also have to shift into 2nd then back into 1st to get the shifter to fully work, again shifting at the tranny itself. Go back into the car and double check that indeed the shifter is sliding into 1st/2nd gear instead of 5th/reverse. Sometimes it can be confusing when your shifting at the tranny side.

If you get that "double" click then the tranny is good and the stock tranny bushings/shifter bushings are worn. If when you do this and restart the car with the clutch DEPRESSED, and the shifter pops back out when you let the clutch out, then your looking at a tranny rebuild.

The gear spitting back out happens cause the spring loaded hub slider key is shaped like a roof, if you don't shift OVER that roof peak the key spring will wedge the hub slider back out of engagement. The dogteeth will just be touching and only partially engaged, under load they will "cam" back out of engagement. On the flip side, if you do shift over that "roof" as in normal shifting, the hub slider will "suck" itself into full engagement with the dog teeth on the opposing gear.

The more your gear pops out, the more rounded the dog teeth becomes, the more they cam back out.

If the tranny is the problem, the more you drive it the more expensive the rebuild gets. If 2nd starts popping out your tranny is not far from grenading. At this point a standard tranny rebuild becomes as expensive as a brand new transmission since your also going to be replacing entire gearsets/hub slider assemblies/shift forks instead of just synchros.
