K&N FIPK? [Merged 9-7] intake filter adapter kn

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

i just bought one last week. I would go to advanced auto zone or a similar place to get it. It only took them one day to get it to me and the price was the same as it is online except i didnt have to pay for shipping. If you really wanna get it online though go to 4filters.com. dont try getting it from performance products because they do not carry this product anymore.

i was wondering wich one do you think is better? i know the k&n is proven too be good but anyone using the dejon tool? please tell me your expieences in the 2. i am also looking at the dejon tool upper and lower ic pipes. any suggestions or comments on theese?

I see many people talking about the FIPK from K&N, and others talking about a Dejon Tools or RRE or Injen intake system. What's the difference? Does the K&N include a new intake pipe? Fromt he pictured on the website, it appears to, but then I am a dummy and really don't know.

For the money, what's the best buy hp/dollar wise? RRE claims the FIPK delivers about 8 - 12hp, right? Does injen or dejon deliver more on top of that?

Thank heaven for the newbie forum :)

FIPK kit will just be an air filter and adaptor, you use your stock rubber 'accordion' intake hose.

injen / dejon are pipes or filter / pipe kits that replace your entire intake up to the turbo inlet. you will get a cone filter and a hard intake pipe. the biggest gains will be from the conical filter. 8-12 sounds about right. technically, a hard intake pipe will allow for better airflow so theoretically you would have a (very minimal) increase in HP as well. but like i said most of it comes from the cone filter. a lot of people have oversized turbo inlets and couldn't use the stock pipe anyways, that's why you see a lot of the 2.5" and 3" dejon pipes in mod lists.

injen is a nice upgrade if you have the money. if you're strapped for cash just go for a super cheap filter/adaptor combo such as

http://www.procarparts.com/store/displaydetails.cfm?pid=MIT-TUR-FILAPTR

:) good luck

Dang so the extra 70 bucks you pay in the difference between the filter only (40) and the FIPK (110) is for a stupid adapter? Wow. Thanks for the info.

hehe.. well its also the brand name... some are even more expensive. i love to waste money so i bought an apexi power intake filter. it was about $150 (i think.. its been a while) and all it is, is a cone filter and adaptor - and its not even washable :) so after X miles when it gets dirty, i have the privilege of shelling out another $60 or $70 to replace the filter only since i already have the adaptor LOL. so $100 for the K&N + adaptor isn't out of hand. of course, as always there are cheaper alternatives, i.e. 'no name' or 'universal' filters with MAS adaptors come out a bit cheaper than the big names, as in that last link i posted.

p.s. oh yeah with the FIPK you're also paying for their neat little CARB sticker that says you're legal. hehehe.

I was wondering what the difference is between the injen intake system and the k&n FIPK? Is there much of a power difference? I found the FIPK for $110... is it a better deal, or does anyone know where i can get the injen for cheap? I have a goal of about 300 hp on either a t28 or a 16g (in the future...), will they both bolt up to a 16g? Thanks for any coments!!!:D

the K&N FPIK is pretty much just a filter and adapter. the resaon why it's a little more expensive than other intakes is because it comes with a CARB sticker.

the Injen includes a filter along with a nice shiny pipe that goes from the MAS to the turbo.

as for power differences, i'm not sure. someone on the board with experience with these intakes probably could better answer you question.

I think LarryD might be a better resource about injen, you might try PM'ing him. As far as I was told, both of the filter parts of both intakes perform pretty much identically. The injen, however, has a nice bling bling factor in that you get a nice polished piece instead of the rubber housing. My choice... injen.

If it makes much of a difference, I can tell you what I've noticed about my K&N. Thus far it's the only modification I've done to my '97, and in my opinion well worth it. The kit only cost me $120 at a local retailer and from the second I installed it I noticed a definite increase in throttle response time. Secondly, my stock BOV now literally screams when I really get the lead out ;] Nice sound.

You might want to also consider the extreme technologies filter from extreme motorsports:

http://www.extrememotorsports.com/g2cat/air.htm

They claim it flows better than the K&N (open at the end) and it has the same lifetime warranty. It's a few more bucks than the K&N, but not by much. Plus it comes in 2 colors, whopeeee! I've ordered one but haven't gotten it yet. I won't have anything to compare it to, but I can let you know how well it fits and looks.

I use the injen intake with the k@N filter, works great for me. I didnt like the injen filter, the adapter it comes with doesnt fit on the mas at all. I also ordered one of those filters off procarparts.com 26 bucks dual cone, u can beat that, i havent got it yet though but i heard it was a nice filter. FYI import tuner used the injen intake on there project gst, showed gains of 10+ hp not bad...

can you use both k&n FIPK and injen pipe??? my original injen filter got damaged in an accident, so i bought k&n filter charger... and the filter doesn't fit at all... the injen pipe is slightly longer than the stock pipe, i think.

Performance wise... it's good as long as you get a solid pipe from MAS to the turbo, like other ppl said.

you will need a adapter that will go to the MAS and the filter will have to fit on the adapter...I have a filter and adapter if your interested
