running lean

im not exactly sure what this means, but from my understanding, is that its not enough fuel in the air mix ratio?, i know my car is running lean, as ive been told that, what exactly is causing it, how can i fix it, and does "running lean" only apply at high speeds when the turbo is really kicking in? or would it be still considered that im running lean doing 60 KM/H down the road?


I have a 3" Turboback Exhaust, and a Autometer Boost Gauge, and soon to be installed a MBC. Will installing an MBC help with the running lean issue? because arent i running lean while boosting at higher psi?

First off we don't know what mods you have!!! Second going lean means not enough fuel and to much air. So if this is happning then it could be a few things if you have a stock setup, fuel filters bad, injectors clogged, fmu for the boost, fuel booster/faster flowing pump, safc/fuel managment.
So see there is a lot of things it could be, that is unless you are being more precise on the mods and what rpm's and so forther....

Who told you it was running lean and how did they know? Without a logger or WBO2 there really isn't any way that you would know.

How do you know it's lean? does the car stumble when you accelerate? are the spark plugs white? have you done a boost leak test? If you have leaks in the system the car can will run lean as a result. I would recommend start with basic maintenance. Plugs,wires, fuel filter, etc before you start adding any other mods.

In an early 'defence'.....

he stated he was boosting at 15 PSI, but it creeps up to 18psi. He asked if running 18PSI on 'stock' was safe. I replied telling him that running 18PSI,even just it creeping, would probably cause him to run lean. In turn leading to much worse problems.

Never specifically said "You are running lean." Just that at 18 PSI it is too much for the stock fuel system and you could possibly be running lean.

No need to defend yourself. I was just going off the information provided which just basically stated "someone told me I was running lean".

How much boost are you running anyways? Maybe you should talk to someone and see if you really are running lean. Usually a stock setup wont run lean. Check all parts of your fuel delivery system if you are running lean. Good Luck

Yeah we never said he was running lean. And we suggested using a manual boost controller to turn the PSI down and cure the creep and put less strain on the fuel system until he could do his supporting mods to boost higher
