test light???

this is my first attempt on locating bad grounds, shorts, and battery drain. so i got a test light(innova 3420) now how do i test. meaning the connection since i have a negative and positive clamps on my test light. i have read luv2rallye article, it mentions to put the test light between the cable terminal and the positive battery post. can someone help my dumb ass figure this out. this is the picture of the test light i got

I would use a cheap multimeter.

Gives you a voltage reading and gives you a continuity test.

Its very simple connect the red clamp to your + terminal and the - to the ground terminal. Now it should have two lights one that lights up when 12v is apllied and another for when a ground is present. If its a real cheap one it may use one light for both and then all you would have to do is either pull the red clamp off to find 12v or the black off to find ground.

But like the poster above me said a voltmeter/multimeter is much better to use and can be had very cheaply and is alot more versatile.

ok i will get one tomorrow hopefully i will get all the small glitches out of my car so i can finaly start driving my car since i have owned this car for almost 3 years and i have only driven it around 2000 miles and 1200 miles of them are from me bring the car from California to texas
