Just installed my new Type S bov, replaceing my stock bov... but now my boost gauge spikes from 15 to about 20-25 psi at boost! *(car takes off like a motha ****er!) I loosen the screw thats on top to where if I turn it one more time it falls off. its alittle better but still spikes to 20+psi... I read somewhere that I might need to get a bc.... but I've also hear about the single spring mod you can do on this bov... whats the right path to take?

I'm running:
small 16g turbo
Injen intake
blue Ebay filter
apexi 3' exhaust system
megna flow cat (cali legal)

Your blowoff valve should have no affect on your boost raising too high, only leaking. How are you controlling your boost now? Are you running on the stock boost controller solenoid or are you running off of wastegate pressure?

How are the vacuum lines to your wastegate ran?

It sounds like the only reason you had any boost control before you put the new BOV on, was because the cheap 2g plastic one was leaking at certain boost levels.

From what I gather, I'm assuming you're running the vacuum lines directly off of wastegate pressure from the turbo. Maybe even with the stock boost controller solenoid still hooked up?

Loosening the top of the BOV is only allowing it to leak some, not adjusting boost.

Definately invest in a MBC.

Yea, I am running the vacuum lines directly off of wastegate pressure to the turbo, I have a MBC that I bought a while back, its a cheap ebay one, I guess I will install it tomorrow morning and loosen that all the way.... now will that set my boost at zero? or stock boost witch I think is 10psi...

It's not really a given thing. It will not be set on 0 PSI. It will be close to factory, or in other words, around 10 PSI... However, my Joe P MBC, backed all of the way out, ran 8 PSI. My new Hallman Pro RX MBC Holds at 10 PSI on the soft spring and 12 PSI on the hard spring. There will be different factors influencing where it will hold... ex. boost creep, mbc or ebc setting and reliability, and whether your lines are ran the right way or not, etc. I'm not for sure on your idea about this, but I would snag a Hallman Pro Rx Kit MBC... Probably the best ever. Adjustments take the amount of time for you to pop the hood, walk around, turn the knob, shut the hood, and get back in the car. Adjustments are accurate and it does not loosen or run in. It is a great MBC. I recommend it over any. Either way you decide to go, good luck:thumb:

Most likely your bov is leaking. same thing happened to me. i used an adapter to install it on my stock piping and I ended up having a leak. Try a boost leak test. Other than that a mbc should take care of the boost spike.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, if it's the GReddy Type-S you are running, I have mine adjusted to closer on the hard side. I'm not for sure how far it is compared to yours as you said yours falls out if you loosen it anymore. Run it down until it get tight, then loosen it about 5, give or take a few, complete rotations. When I played with the BOV settings, I only noticed noise pitches... you may do the same. Soft was quieter and hard was louder. It's probably just going to be a tune and test project. Nothin big!

A boost leak from the blowoff valve wouldn't cause spikes in excess of 20psi. I'm wondering if you're actually getting good vacuum to the wastegate in order for it to open.

If you're just running off of wastegate pressure, you should have a line going straight from the intake manifold to the blowoff valve port, and another seperate line from the outlet on the turbo outlet pipe to the port on the top of the wastegate.

Take the line off at the turbo outlet pipe and use an air compressor to pump some air into the line, and see if your wastegate opens.

See what that does for you before you put the manual boost controller on. You shouldn't be hitting that much boost if the car is running off of wastegate pressure.

Make sure to check all of your vacume lines running from the wastegate back to the selinoid thats located under your overflow tank and make sure they are not split or cracked I had this problem once and it cause similar problems for me

When I replaced the stock bov with the new one, I just placed the line from the mani to the top nipple (hehe nipple) and left the lower one open...

im not sure what my wastegate is hooked up too, what happends of its not hooked up at all?

I'm going to install a cheap mbc I bought from ebay awhile back for now altho I just finished ordering a Joe P MBC Pro-Z-S mbc from boostcontrollers.com
