oK, my idle is fine in parking, but when I put it in reverse or drive, the rpms drop and it usually turns off. Any ideas as to what can be wrong ?

It sounds like the idle is set too low. How many rpms are you running at in park? You may also want to post a log of your problem.

in park, it idles at 850 which is good. But whenever I put it in reverse or drive, it stumbles and sometimes dies...??

When it is put into drive or reverse and does not stall, does it work as normal? Does the transmission shift correctly through the gears? What happens when you drive, slow down, and then stop?

are you giving it enough time to warm up...I have the "exact" same prob with my 02 pathfinder and it's in flawless running condition and does the same thing unless I give it roughly 3-5 minutes of warming up (only happens on really cold days like under 20 degrees).
