Hey all I've been having this problem for about 8 months. I have to refill the reservoir up about 1 time every three days. When I start the car I get a noise that sounds similar to a bad TOB. The noise seems to slowly go away once the car is warmed up. It seems to be less of a problem in the summer when the weather is warmer compared to the winter time when it seems to drain faster than I can fill it.
But I have to pump my clutch a few time where it engages enough to shift then is good usually until I park the car, and walk away. I've become fairly accustom to this but would like to fix it. I thought it was the slave cylinder so I bought a rebuild kid. After I just got done replacing my timing belt, I took a look at it and it didn't seem to be leaking or have any problems at all. Would the bad TOB make me leak fluid? Also when I got into my car this morning when I got out I had a drop of fluid on my shoe, it was black though. I understand that the master cylinder is located under the dash. could this be my problem? thanks alot.

my floor board is always wet and slippery.. I took my floor mat out cause it was getting wet. DO you think it is the mastercylinder concidering that I got black fluid on my foot today ? I never noticed the fluid on my foot before, then again I've never looked. Is it an easy fix ?

Your problem could be a couple of things. You have a leak in your system. You have to find the leak.

Basically you have to inspect the Master Cylinder, Slave Cylinder, and the lines for leaks; then repair what is leaking.

The master and slave cylinders are easy fixes in my opinion.

I agree. Master cylinder. 2 bolts and 1 clip and she's out. Not that hard as long as you're skinny.

Yea right...it doesn't matter if your skinny or not, that job sucks ass

And i would agree I have seen multiple times where the clutch master leaks back into the floorboard. I would also suggest not getting a reman one because if its bad you will not want to do it again for a long long time.

i cannot find any leaks in the engine bay so my problem has to be in the car. How often to this master cylinders take a shit?

107K on my '97 Eclipse GS, 128K on my '92 TSi FWD, 135k on my buddy's '95 TSi AWD.

It depends on how much use the clutch sees, I suppose. A car that is daily city-driven will wear out the clutch master much quicker than a car that is highway-driven only.

my cars got 154.. I beleive it was mostly stop and go driving it went though.. so I imagine that is the culprit.. thanks.. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

where do i bleed the clutch at ? do i bleed it from the slave cyl. or is there another spot?

I have the same problem, don't feel bad. Had to fix my alarm today, and found my master cylinder was leaking. Mine is not as severe as yours though I only have to fill the reservoir every 2 months or so. I know what I'm doing next weekend now.

You need a new master cylinder. Save a step, replace the slave at the same time, and get rid of the accumulator with a stainless replacement line from RRE.

The OP's NT does not have an accumulator such as those found on the turbo cars. The system is otherwise similar to any other hydraulic clutch.

It is a good time to replace the slave, with the master.
