Alright so this is my second dsm in 5 or so years my first one was fun but got rid of it so i got another one for 350$ gst with a six bolt with bent valves imagine that!!! Now so far ive done wiseco pistons 20 over at 8.5.1 compression with eagle rods, got stainless valves, and just ordered some Brian cower spring and retainer set.. so i wondering what cams will go good, what people have tried or have for a preference. i dont have a turbo or manifold or any of my fuel system yet i was trying to get the engine done first, then move on to that and fuel suggestions would be great to. Any help would be great thanks

Well, with the built engine you have some options, but what matters most is what you want to do with the car once you build it. What are your goals for the car?

Lift and duration is the key for getting more air without sacrificing driveability. The longer the duration during the intake stroke, the more air that is going to flow, and then the more fuel you can put in and burn. The higher the lift (without valve float), the more air that can also be put in and the more fuel that can be burned. They go hand in hand, and when you have the valves overlap (meaning the exhaust is still open while the intake is just opening) the better. Why you ask? The air will be forced out regardless, but the fresh air will drive out the burnt air much faster.

Do the research and look up for yourself though. You will be better of that way. It all also depends on the style of driving you will be doing, street or track? Be realistic as well.

You will also need to get an upgraded valve train as well. Dual springs will keep that vavle from kissing the piston (valve float).

Yep, I'll agree with above... Take a look at this thread:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...t-motor-264-272-272-272-stock-cams-e316g.html

He was thinking about one of the smaller turbos you could put on a built engine, but there's some good stuff to read up on. I would recommend the 272/272 combo if you want to stay streetable, but like what was said above, a lot of it just depends on the way you drive. Do some searches on the various setups, though, there's a lot of good reading around here!

Do you have a turbo in mind or anything?

With my car, it is the perfect dd, but is getting a little slow to me. I'm running the E3 16g. With those turbos, it's pretty easy to get into 12s with a decent tune and proper driving skills. My best to date was 12.3 @112.

There's a link I had printed off a while ago, but it had the dyno comparisons for the Evo3 16g w/ 264/264 and 264/272 and 272/272. I wish I could find that.. Maybe tonight I'll search through my papers and see if I can't get the link up here

I'm in a similar conundrum on decided if 272/272 or 280/280 cams will work the best.

I have a fully built stage iv block and head that's running on Eagle rods, 9:1 20 Wiseco pistons, SBR intake manifold, meth kit, rods, spring, etc... and a HX-40 turbo that get full spool at 4500 rpm on 264/272 right now. I want the cams to work with the turbo spool. I'm open to all advices, thanks.

I wouldn't recommend anything above 272 unless you have dual valve springs. 272s seem right for your goals if you want power at a mid range RPM and are still good for daily driving , 280s are top end monsters. Unless your planning to rap out to 9000RPM, or you need to flow a lot more air top end for a huge turbo, you would probably want to go with the 272s.

it all depends on the power band you like to have and the turbo you are gonna use, 272 cams are good for a DD and medium frame turbos, with 280 cams you could get more power but will be higher in the rpm and you will loose some low end and will work the best with medium to big turbos. It all depends on your preference.
