So I Have this buddy that is an HID distributor. My Girlfriend got me a set of HIDs for Xmas and i just put them in the car they are 10k headlights and 3k fog aka white headlights and yellow fogs looks real good I will post a pic of the as soon as I get my camera.

Just so people know I used an Ebay projector to fit these in my car. They are super bright and light up the entire road

nice, it will be interesting to see these.

Heres a little FYI for people interested in HID's, and it clears up a little ignorance some people have with regards to the 'K' of the light (temperature) and brightness (Lumens). Since the brightest temperature is actually 4100K, which is closest to the colour of light the sun produces.

Many people believe that the higher the colour temperature the brighter the lamp. This is totally wrong. The colour temperature is purely a scale to measure the colour of the light output and is measured on the graph shown as an X and Y coordinate. It is a reference purely for colour and could equally be called White , Green or Blue. The reality is the higher up the scale the lamps are the less bright they become. 4100K lamps are approx 20% brighter (measured in Lumens not degrees K) than the 6000K.

Heres a graph to indicate colour vs temperature (might be hard to understand)

And a brief idea of Temperature VS colour. Which each fading into the next.

(infared) - Yellow(3000k) - White(4100K) - Blue(6000k) - Purple(10000k) - (ultraviolent)

Goodluck with the HID's!

Yes I would like to see those cheap Ebay projectors and how the light beam as well. I was planning on getting them as HID too.

In my experience of installing HIDs your colors are a little off.
yellow is 3000ks but as far as the white look i believe the 6000k range has been closer to white, I know what the books say but I see the 6000k to be more of a white and 10000k to be close to a blue with the 30000k bulbs in the purple i have a set of 10000k on mine and when i get these pictures up I will show you how they look blue more then purple.

Just so you know i have installed approx 15 kits and in everycar the same color will look different, like with sealed beamed projectors look more pronounced in terms of color

Awesome info gsr
Aren't HIDs an issue for anything other then cruising speed because of the heating and lack of cooling?

It would be really nice to have something brighter then the stockies :p Can't wait to see the pics!!

No pics yet? Cmon man.

Ebay projector? You mean the "4x6 projector housing"?

eBay Motors: 90-91 ECLIPSE 91 92 93 3000GT 4X6 PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS (item 150199859119 end time Jan-01-08 16:45:25 PST)

The bulbs were H4s so it was a simple find, all in all it took me about 45 mins to wire the HIDs up to the heads and the fogs

One more thing! can you point your car near a wall for the light beam t show ?? I don't know if its your camera but the light beam seems to be everywhere

I can, I set the lights up the car was about 10 ft from the garage door. I placed the beams at about 2.5-3ft off the ground. The light is just all over the place there isnt anything that isnt lit when i have them on.

The 4"x6" ebay housings aren't really a projector. Its a halogen housing with a projector lens in the middle. There really isn't a cut off. He drove behind me all the way home when we were done installing them and the glare isn't as bad as I thought. That video doesn't do it any justice.

No. HID's don't run 'hotter' than your standard halogen bulbs. They do pull more power to ignite, but pull less power than a halogen to run. Approx. 35 watts if I remember correctly.

That would be the number one reason why HID 'retrofits' into halogen housings are dangerous and illegal. Projectors have a sharp cutoff line which eliminates the dangerous glare that annoys traffic ahead of you and blinds oncoming traffic.

That looks awesome! Was also looking into purchasing these projectors housings. But I must demand beam pattern in front of a garage of something. Nonetheless Nice Job !

I was thinking of getting this, back then but the price tag of $575 scare me away.

Sylvania Xenarc X4656 Sealed Beam HID Headlights Upgrade

Wow. Those are expensive. Really nice though. And sylvania doesn't make the Xenarc kits anymore. You can get the cheap ebay housings and a high quality hid kit and pay less than $200.

Also the kit that 1slo1g has in his car has a shield on the head light bulb for use in a halogen housing.

Those housing's don't perform like projectors. They are actual halogen housings that have a projector lens in front of the bulb. There is almost no cut off however, I still love them. They make his car look beautiful.

Yep, the D.O.T. housings just suck. It is tha ability of the E-code H4 housings to control the light that make then so cool. Even with 80watt low beams, I was only once flashed by an on coming driver.

"E-code lamps have a wide beam that lights the road from side to side. They are useful at 300-400 feet. There is a sharp horizontal transition from dark to light about 1" high at 25 feet. A wedge of light on the right side lights up roadside signs. On low beam you can expect about four times as much light on the road as a sealed beam and twice as much on high beam. Because of the tight beam control, these lamps can be aimed very accurately which facilitates the use of upgraded bulbs without offending oncoming traffic. These lamps are not certified for use on public highways in the US and are sold for off road and racing purposes only."

Umm... A HID "retrofit" is putting the projector INTO a stock housing.

Looked at your link, they have two versions of them. The Free Form and the other one. Wouldn't the free form beam the light all over the place compared to the other ones? Or would that only matter with the bulb you put in compared to Halogen H4 Bulbs and H4 H.I.D's?
