I already did a search and really did not find anything, I took my car in to get the oil pump and water pump replaced 1990 gsx, what should i expect to pay for this, the guy is a friend so i am assuming he will hook me up..... But you never know. he is also checking my compression and I told him if anyhting else looks fishy while he is in there to let me know. So i am crossing my fingers that he does not find anything major becuase i am tight on cash right now. My car has 173xxx miles on it and a DSM guy round my way told me to just check compression new gaskets and oil/water pump and my 300hp goal should be good and the engine would last alot longer... does this sound ok??? I really do not want to waste money throwing money and upgrades on a motor thats gonna need to be replaced soon.

New water pump can be had for around $60 (parts dinosaur I think). New oil pump for around $110 (ebay).

For labor costs maybe someone else will chime in.

The key is the compression #s. If those are good then you should be able to get by on fairly little cash for the time being. If the compression #s come back bad, retest, then wet test, then leak down test. You still may be able to get off clean with just a head gasket. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks i already got the parts from Mitsu, i was just wondering if anyone had a ballpark labor estimated cost?
