Does changing the smic piping from stock to aftermarket really help out? Would there be a noticeable gains? Also would replacing the stock intercooler with an aftermarket smic help out that much? I want to keep the side because I want it to be more of a sleeper look. Any info would help.
 
Changing to After market intercooler piping makes a big difference... You will notice the change... It helps spool up and can potentially raise your boost level by 1 or 2 psi which in turn gives you more power...An upgraded sidemount will lower your intake temps. which can give you more power but you dont have to worry about upgrading your smic with the stock turbo since you will bu running under 15 psi
 
i like the idea of the sleeper look its the same thing i was going for with my car. except i did break a little and go with the front mount but.... i am considering painting it flat black.
you will gain hp as well as more acurate boost. with those old plastic pipes you were actually loosing leaky air. where as these will hold better. also as you can not visually see but those plastic ones expand and contract at high boost.
i belive you will see a noticable differance.

It is better to anodize an intercooler. I've heard of issues with paint clogging up the little airflow vents on the ic.

+1 if you wnat it to be hidden just anodize it (its not hard, can be done at home) Plus you could get some gutter guard or something to keep stuff from hitting it and hide it a little more.
 
Would replacing the stock smic for an after market smic help out much? I have been read about them. Most say they loose less psi. Or even at that. Can you tell a big dif. with a fmic? Like a huge dif. from a smic?
 
after I put on a boost controller and cranked up the boost on the stock turbo I kept popping off the stock side mount intercooler pipe. The one that goes from the bov to the top of the smic. It just can't hold higher levels of boost. 17psi and pop! That should be your first pipe to replace. I put in a Hahn smic and noticed a huge difference from the stock smic. Huge. Noticeably the car was a lot less prone to detonation at higher levels of boost and the intake charge temps were way lower. Loss boost loss.Get a good smic and call it a day if you're not planning on getting a huge turbo. I am running a FP bigt28 with all supporting mods
 
im going to keep the stock SMIC and my 14b, running at 18 lbs, my trick to not heak soaking it is... Methanol.

Its kinda pointless to throw a FMIC if your staying between t25-14b, even with a 16g you can run the stock SMIC with methanol.
