Buying a 92 AWD Talon - Transmission Issues?

I might be picking up a 92 AWD Talon tonight but it has a problem where it won't shift into 1st or 2nd but shifts into 3rd, 4th, 5th.

The owner says he was told it was a bad master or slave cylinder. I was wondering if this sounds about right because I'm thinking a problem with a bad master or slave cylinder would be more consistant across all gears.

I would also agree that it should be more consistant through all the gears, more than likely all the synchros are worn out from shifting between 1st and 2nd for city driving (and probably dogging it). How much are you picking it up for? Jackstrans has good prices on transmission rebuilds or upgrades, if you get it for cheap enough might as well pop in a good transmission to start things off the right way !! I'll double check to see if I can read up on anything to help with the situation, but that would be my thinking at the moment, to vfaq I go~~"

Thanks it's much appreciated. I searched through the forums here for about an hour but couldn't find anyone who's experienced the same situation. Syncros is what I'm thinking as well.

He's wanting $1600 for it. It's a 92 AWD Talon, 16g, walbro 255, 3" exhaust, 17" enkeis with new rubber, car is in good shape, interior looks good, 200,000 miles on body and 80,000 on engine with good compression and all that. How does the price sound?

I probably will. I'm pretty sure it's gonna need a new transmission but I still think it's a good deal. I'm gonna be using it mainly for rallycross and given the fact that it's already putting down good power I think a beefier tranny will do it some good.

I say buy it, I got my 92 in Feb for 1700 175,xxx miles and had to put in a tranny with low miles ### of the same thing, and i thought mine was a good buy, oh yea I got mine completely stock so I say yours is way worth it
