Any engine rebuild suggestions?

Thursday i will be pulling the engine out of my bastard laser. I will be rebuilding the bottom end due to me snapping the ear off at the bottom where it connects to the tranny. Im going with a basic rebuild kit but 2g pistons, ARP headstuds, and balance shaft elem. Does anyone have any suggestions? This will be my first rebuild and pull i have a friend providing me with his knowledge and help.

follow every procedure by the book and if you come to something you think could be old and aged, replace it.

Revised lash adjusters (lifters).
Valve stem seals.
If you don't plan on removing the cams, then maybe just the lash adjusters.
Might as well change the knock sensor if it hasn't been replaced in a while. Much faster/easier with the motor out.
