Wierd electrical problem. Take a shot at this

I just got this car and everything was perfect until last night. I was leaving work last night so I turn on the headlights and start the car. Shortly after starting the car I noticed a wierd smell and then saw smoke coming from the hole for the stereo so I shut the car off and parked it. I pulled apart all the wires that were melted together and drove the car home with no problem. When I get home I off the car and the lights but the tail lamp, dash light, and the running lights remain on with the car off. When I pull the 10amp fuse under the hood they all turn off when I put it back in they all turn back on. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!! I am going to kick the hell out of this car.

Cut out the melted wires and replace, or safer yet replace the the wiring harness completely. You had a positive wire that was grounding itself out somewhere. Lucky your car did'nt burn to the ground.

I would say you are lucky, you can visually see the problem. Get a roll of wire and go to town. If you replace all of the visably bad wires and still have an issue, bring it to Nebraska and I promice you that I can fix it.

I do this for a living and most of the time its not so easily visable. Trust me the hardest part is finding the problem, not fixing it. Just be patient, disconect the battery and match the colors up. I would suggest a large bag of the heat shrink connectors with solder inside, it makes an easy solid connection.
