I got a 96, 7 bolt with 20 over JE pistons, Eagle rods and a new stock crank for cheap. I was told that it had a spun main baring. But i took it apart and it is all OK but a balance shaft baring was spun. If i get the balance shaft elimator kit it would fix it. Should i rebuild it or get a 6 bolt?

Almost everyone on here will tell you to get a 6bolt, for the fact that it is a better engine. As for me I wouldn't want the headache of the swap, that is why I just got a 7bolt and not a 6bolt.

It really depends on your funds and time. If you have the ability to take it apart and rebuild a 6 bolt block you will be much happier in the long run because you wont have to worry about crankwalk and you will have new parts. If you cant do that then replacement is a good option. Good Luck!

If the block checks out, bearings and all, then reuse it and don't let those parts go to waste, BUt as for me I'd fix the 7 bolt and put it in the car.

Hey Jason welcome to the forums. Notice my avatar has my car and your car in it. Get the 6 bolt and have peace of mind. I know that you are wanting to build a drag racing terror so do it right the first time. I mean honestly if you are going to build the 7 bolt then stroke it and do the fixes for the crankwalk issue and be done with it or just build a 6bolt. I think either way you'll be happy. I cant wait till the season starts and it warms up again so we can all roll together.

DEFINITELY do the BSE, hell you gotta tear the Oil Pump down & check it out anyway being the BS "fragged" - & double check everything behind the IDIOT who would do all that in ANY Motor & not do the BSE - PURE UTTER 2 DIGIT IQ STUPIDITY.

There's no point in throwing away a perfectly good engine. I would put it back together and run it till it pukes.

I agree with his assessment. Why put all that effort into a swap when all you have to do is pull the oil pump out of the engine you just got all brand new stuff for? Fix the minor mishap in your 7 bolt and enjoy it until it fails.....IF it fails. There are plenty of people on here who have had 7 bolts live long, successful lives.

7 bolts have been proven, I dont know why everyone feels the need to swap to a 6 bolt..I can pull of PLENTY of HIGH HP 7 bolts putting it down all day:rocks:
