well hello to everyone. My name is David and currently i only own a 2003 eclipse GS, but its only been mod as a show car with no to much engine modification besides I/H/E and a 50 shot of nitrous oxide. After a while i decide that is time to get a car that will go fast. And since the first moment i got my license i always want to get a 95-99 eclipse. So now here is where the problem is. I been looking around for eclipse in my area but the GS-T/ GSX eclipse the motor has way to many miles (mostly around the 130k) for around $2500 , but also i found RS/GS eclipse with only 60k miles on the motor for around $5000. So that the problem what will be the best car to get the best out of performance the 4G63 engine or the 420A engine. I don't know to much about the engines itself besides that the first one comes with a turbo and the other doesn't. I'm not looking for a daily driving car more a weekend/ race track car. So yeah need some help in deciding what will be the best option. Any help with be really appreciated. Thanks David
 
Best performance is going to be had with a 4G63 hands down. I'd say do some compression checks on the older GST/X since, when maintained, the life of one can be long.
 
i agree my awd i bought with 220k on it still has perf comp and im now running 15 psi and it handles it like its new :)
 
Just like the others said 4g63 is without a doubt the best engine, but just like everyone else you gona have to do the usual, rebuild the engine. Most of the DSM's have a lot of miles on them, but 95% of people build them, whether to facotry spec internals or to stronger pistons and rods...etc..etc. My suggestion would be to find someone you know that has build the engine of the car that its being sold, that way you can trust them. just like tfoti said, do a compression check on all the cylinders and see where you stand. I dont know how much you are trying to spend, but if $5000-6000 is your budget i say get a AWD eclipse or talon for around $2000-2500 with a lot of miles on it and drive it till you blow it and then with the rest of the money just build to factory spec with a little modyfing. 4g63 engines are bullet proof and using stock internals on the 95-99 you can push it up to 400hp, and thats offcourse with a bigger turbo, fuel, tunning and a bunch of other stuff.
 
The 4g63 is one of a very few four cylinder engines that can take the abuse and live. The 420a though many people (even on this site) have made a boat load of power can't argue the immediate advantage the 4g63 has. I dare say the 4g63t, sr20, and the old school ford 2300 (think pinto motor) are hands down the toughest pound for pound engines ever built. As far as mileage if the car is well maintained it shouldn't be a problem. My 1989 dodge colt turbo (4g61t engine 1.6liter version) has I just checked 347,000 miles on the motor. The only upgrades are metal head gasket and arp studs the rest is factory stock. Casper (the colt) runs 26psi on a 60-1 on pump gas daily driven, traps 116 mph on radials and pump gas.

4g63!!!!!!hands down is the best motor ever built:thumb: .......what other 4 cylinder motor do you know that can push over 1k to the tire under 15k....theres a guy around my way with 1017hp thats only put about 10k in his car....awd dsm 4g63 all the way....find a good deal and check compression numbers..
