I posted this a minute ago, and now I can start a thread. Long story short, I might be buying a 1g talon with a bad turbo. Should I just replace it with another 14b, or go with something a little nicer (if that is possible.) I'd like to open the door to increasing performance later, and installing a turbo that isn't being run at full capacity is fine by me... I just don't want to upgrade fuel or even the intake now. I just want a bolt on to replace the bad one.

"I don't know if any of these questions will be seen, but..

I wasn't able to create a thread. I just signed up. Will this change?

I am looking at getting a 1992 Talon Tsi with a "bad turbo." The guys says it runs fine but the turbo doesn't work. I was planning on doing some small upgrades, but I was wondering if was going to replace the turbo, what should I go for? I'm not looking at a big upgrade, but something that might be able t bolt right on to the manifold and be able of a little more boost, but not much. Basically, IfI have to buy a replacement, I might as well buy something that will be nice? Or should I just et another 14b? (Which I assume is on it...)"

I know there will be alot of people on here that say you should just replace it with a cheap stocker for now and then get your supporting mods all doen, but I'm not one of them.

I went from a puny T25 to a EVO III 16g and I'm still on an all stock fuel setup running 14lbs. and still running rich.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade your blown 14b.

replace with a 14b = $75-150 bucks
16g = easyest upgrade $300-$700 bucks. + should have upgraded fuel pump,injectors,i/c, and a way to mange it all (s-afc,maft,etc.)

14b isn't the worst turbo ever. you would probably be pretty satisfied with a new/used one. you can't put down more then 16psi on stock fuel anyway. and the 14b does 16psi easy. not to mention 1g motors that have alot of miles on them show it pretty well. don't go trying to kill it the moment you get it.

the 16g bolt right up. you'll never know the difference just by looking at it after it is all hooked up.

I got a ride in 95carboneclipse car and there felt to be a huge difference between his 16g and my t 25. If my turbo blew I would also upgrade instead of going with the same stock turbo.

Well I am looking at buying one of two options-

$1300- awd talon 92 160k, needs turbo and 2nd gear problems- I know where a tranny is for $50

$1500- awd talon 1990- 148k, needs clutch cylinders headliner, door handle.

I'm trying to decide on which one to go with. I'm startig to think the 2nd is better.

Well I'm a mechanic and I haven't seen a single one come around for near that price. I found a tranny near by I could get for $50 and it is supposed to be working fine. I am looking for the under $1500 range. To leave me $300-500 for parts and whatnot. I could replace the tranny and turbo in a weekend... Just my thoughts... dunno...

If you buy either of those and your still only left with a $500 budget, then it may be in your best interest to stick another 14b in there. An MHI EVO III 16g (yes, it says TD05H on the compressor) will run you roughly $550.
