quick question: K&N Filter, universal?

just wondering are all the cone shaped K&N filter universal? .. i have a aem intake on my nt, i bought an eclipse k&n filter from a website, it was flat formed, so im returning it, i know my old mustang had a cone like filter in its stock box, if i bought one for it, you think that would fit? .. i asked a associate from the website i bought it from, they werent sure if it;ll fit, and i went to autozone to see if they have any cone filters to see the fitment, but they havent had any for the past 2months, so im not waiting for them to restock. Thanks for the help.

There are 2 kinds of filters you can buy. There are the direct drop in replacement ones (replaces a stock filter) or the cone ones that you would need an adapter for and remove your filter housing.

Like was said the K&N filter you got would probably be if you still had the factory intake & would be a direct dop in. K&N makes a tonn of different cone filters & they all have slightly different measurements. Just need to measure the inlet size of your current filter & then get the size of the cone you want (either the same as what you have or can go larger/slightly different shape). Being they make so many different sized cone filters, chances are the one you had for you Mustang won't fit.

If you get the same inlet diameter for the filter that will attach to the pipe, you can use any K&N filter you want... long or short cone... fat or narrow... as long as the inlet diameter is the same

Or autozone.... just make sure you get one that will fit your intake.
