So, a friend of mine recently just put a Punishment Racing 2.5" DP on his AWD talon. The cat is a high-flow with a 3" tail. He's saying the Punishment Racing 2.5" will flow better than something liek the 2.5"-3" Megan Racing Downpipe because of the "bottle neck" which creates disruption in the exhaust on the Megan DP. Also, he says the welds are better where as the Megen has smooth bends throughout and the Punishment has good welds, but they're not as smooth as the megan's subtle bends. Anyone verify if this is true..?

One thing I would really worry about with the welds is if they leak. Also, look inside the downpipe to see if you have pieces of weld hanging off on the inside that might disrupt airflow (but I highly doubt either piece would have this). Yes, you can argue which ones are prettier, but it really doesn't matter. (And I think that the welds on the MR downpipe are very nice...not sure why your friend thinks otherwise.)

As for the full 2.5" downpipe vs. a 2.5" > 3", I would say it partially depends on if you're running a cat and also what catback exhaust you have. You obviously don't want to be running a 2.5" > 3" downpipe if you're going to be running a stock or 2.5" cat because that'll create a bottle neck. But, from my reading, there's no problem in running a 2.5" > 3" downpipe. The biggest exhaust size most people go to is 3", but you should still have the 2.5" at the beginning of the downpipe as it will flow better than a full 3" downpipe (unless you're running a huge turbo and putting down big numbers). Just think of your goals and your plans for the car. I will be running the Megan Racing downpipe (once I finally get my car running) and think it's a very nice piece as do a lot of other people on here.

Here's 2 links dealing with downpipes that might interest you:

I guess that makes sense and now that I think about it, he couldn't go 2.5 to 3 on the DP 'cause he has a 2.5 high flow cat. Hah. Makes sense now. Thanks.

if there is gonna be a difference, its going to be mininal... moreover i would be concerned about which one is a better quality... i perfer megan racing also, i had a friend i installed it on his spyder and he enjoyed it! as far as performance wise... dont count on a huge difference...
