okay. i guess winter started already..
it was just snowing for about 2 hrs in eastern NY and im starting to get worried about spinning out, etc.

now the problem is that i don't know when my tires came on my car and no clue on mileage or year.
my question is that can you find your thread life without taking it to the tire store(not sure if its even possible) or spending $XX?

help me out please=[

I've actually seen some tire shops use the penny thing to check tread depth.

Treadware is different for every car and driver combo. It's effected by speed, how hard you drive your car, and the camber (positive or negitive). So even if you take it to a tire shop they'll only be able to give you a broad range that could be way off. The best way is to buy a cheap tire tread gauge from autozone, napa, ect. (or use a skinny tape measure)measure your tread wait a month or so and measure again, then do a little math and figure out how long they have left.

okay, the snow stopped at about 2pm today and me and my friends went out to dick around with the cars and it turned out to be better then i thought!
sadly my camaras battery died about 5 mins after so i only got one picture.
my friend hit a pole with his audi too

AWD won't prevent you from spinning out, nor will it stop you any quicker on snow or ice. (I wish I had AWD )

I love how well these AWDs go in the snow. I've already rescued my wife and kids a couple of times, because our FWD minivan sucks in the snow. But now you know.

I've never gotten my FWD's stuck in the snow, yet. :fingerscrossed: I'd love to get a GSX w/ABS for the winter, anyways - less to worry about.

OP: Make sure your alignment is good, and use skinnier tires, if possible.

There also should be markers in the grove of the tires, it's a little piece of rubber that sticks up about an 1/8 of an inch.

I took awd for granted one year. My tires where bald and nothing will help you then. Since then I picked up an extra set of wheels and got snow tires for them, they look like truck tires!

i think thats a wise idea. but since im low on green as of now
i just have to get through winter driving like a semi-granny
