Wow i just put up a thread on an oil leak from the VC cap, i was on my way to Auto Zone to fix that problem then, my car dash and evreything started dimming on me, i had to turn around back to my house or i wasnt gonna make it back!! Is there a way i can test to see if its my alternator or my battery that died on me? I cant make it to auto zone right now, no car and my brother didnt leave the keys to his navigator:notgood:

Take a volt meter to the battery w/o the car running and it should be roughly 12v. Start the car and increase the rpm's via the throttle to about 2k. It should be roughly 13.4 - 14.4 volts. If either are off thats whats wrong.

If you can get teh car started, put a voltmeter on the battery terminals. At idle with all accessories on ( heater, radio, wipers, lights etc..) you should get at least 13.5-13.8 volts...14v is best. 13.0 - 12.8 is about the limit of stretching it's life and it should be replaced at that point.. Anything less, like 11.8 or lower and it's shot, no more limping it, replace it
