i have a 97 gst and am new to dsm's and like it so far...knock on wood. i was just reading a forum and it said something about how bad the stock boost gauge is. well i dident even know their was a stock one. i have pressure and ex. temp gauges on the A-piller and a boost gauge down in front of the shifter. its a 30/30 boost vac. it has black trim around it. is this the stock gauge or aftermarket? and if it is stock, should i replace it?:confused:
 
The stock boost gauge is in the cluster to the left, next to the oil pressure gauge. The gauges you mentioned are aftermarket. The new gauge you are running is fine.

F.Y.I., the stock boost gauge is "bad" because it doesn't actually show you the exact pressure.

The one you have is aftermarket, so as long as it works you dont need to replace it. The stock boost gauge is in the instrument cluster.
 
o ok. but i have another question. according to my boost gauge im rining 10-12 psi. and at idle im at -20-21. is that right?
 
ok thanks so much. but here comes another question. in first and second and third i can floor it with no problems. but if im in 4th or 5th "mainly 5th" and i give it a good amount of gas the engine will start to rev like normal but then it well start rev higher but its not going to thw wheels. idk if it the cluch slipping or something. whats wrong?
 
You aren't going to feel as much of a "pull" in 5th as you would in 2nd... probably because you are punching it at a lower RPM. Now if it is accelerating, and then the rev's suddenly jump up really quick, then something is slipping/you have a problem.
 
i know their isent any pull at lower rpm in a high gear. but that is whats happening. i let off the gas but it will start to rev highter then its supost to. is it that their is more power the the cluch can handle.
 
Heres a quick and easy test, go out on to the highway put it in 5th and just cruse at a low rpm. Floor it and watch the boost gauge, when boost comes on if the rpm's shoot up really quick and the car isnt really going anywhere than i think that it would be safe to say that your clutch is slipping and should be replaced. Hope this helps.
 
I agree that it sounds like the clutch is slipping. But before you go buying new parts, get a Haynes manual and make sure the clutch is properly adjusted. If the clutch engages way off the floor, it might be that it just needs adjusted. Much cheaper!:thumb:
