Ok, I've got quite a few problems with my transmission, and I'm thinking of rebuilding it. I've done transmission work before, (I'm the closest drivetrain mechanic for 40 somethin miles) however, seeing is how this one is actually mine, I'm trying to do a bit of research first.

First of all, I'm used to truck transmissions. (I've worked on cars, too, but trucks are so much more common.) So, I'm gonna need to know of any major differences I might have to keep in mind.

Also, I'm not used to high-powered sports car transmissions, so I'm not particularly familiar with the different options available. If you could list 'em and explain 'em, or just give me a link, that would be awesome.

Oh, it's right. I got tired of my back wheels moving. Thanks.

Has anyone had EVO gears installed on their car? I'm looking at the EVO gear cluster, and I'm wondering how well it works.

And would some one please explain what the hell is double synchro. Is it just two cones instead of one big one, or are there two synchromeshes?

If you haven't seen it already www.vfaq.com has a great write up on tearing the transmission down. I'm not familiar with the evo gears but I rebuilt my transsmission recently and it wasn't too bad at all "was also my first time"... My bearing failed on my intermidate shaft and it was just laying in the bellhousing, luckily it didn't cause to much damage and I was able to replace the bearing and seals and be done with it.

You're all awesome. But I have one more (I think) question. They say you can't double synchro 3-5+R on a 90. However, if I order the EVO III gears, can they double synchro those before they ship 'em and still have them fit in my tranny? (They mention it on the site, but they weren't really clear.)
