I just wanted to get peoples opinion about what pistons to go with. I searched and couldnt find anything about the best piston or rod. Im thinking of going with crower h beam rods with cp 12.5-1 compression pistons. Is there any better pistons out there? Also what would be a good set of cams for this block. I want comp but dont know where to find the specs for what i need

Any lower compression piston will be better. A common, relatively cheap setup are Eagle H-beam rods and Wiseco pistons.

Are you going to be using the 12.5-1 pistons with turbo? If so that is way to high for turbo engines, especially if you plan on running high boost levels.:dsm:

12.5:1 CR is even high for a NA motor, I wouldn't recommend using those pistons or running much boost at all unless it is very low boost with very high octane fuel. Most people who go through and build their motors are happy with 8.5:1-9.0:1 I have heard of going higher but if you want to use it on the street and boost it isn't a good idea.

Yea, stay away from 12:1 and higher for boosted applications. 9:1 is about the highest you want to go.. 8:1 gives you more range of boost and still has enough oomph t get you around good before the turbo is spooled. personally i like 8.5's

The S2000 i tuned the other day with a T-66 had stock 11:1's in it and it wasn't liking much over 6-7 lbs TOPS.

Also, if you're planning to build a road racing engine, give SERIOUS thought to going with the 2.3L stroker. More torque and response, faster spool on larger turbos, and since our cars are FI, there's ZERO need to run them at high RPMs to improve the cubic flow.. just bump the boost. With a FWD it could be detrimental... with AWD, the extra torque will help IMMENSELY.

My one regret about my own rebuild, honestly, is that I stuck with the 2.0L instead of stroking it when I had the chance.

You need to do ALOT of thinking on what this car is gunna actually be used for. That will determine what parts are best. Once you have that figured out then do some research, that will net you all the answeres you need. This question gets ask way to much.

If your lookin for 400-600 horse power the eagle h-beam/weisco combo will work just fine.

I am running the eagle/weisco combo at 9.0:1 and loving it. The car is a beast even without boost. But I built my engine with the intent of using race fuel most of the time.

Another thing with the strokers is that without revving so high its less stressful on your transmission. I build transmissions all the time and wanted some serious revs so I stuck with a 2.0L

Give us a list of more specific goals and a budget and we can give you some more insight. good luck bud :thumb:.

A few friends and i have built hondas 11+ compression with big t4 turbos and ran them ten sec passes. Im a drag racing type of guy. I have built a few 11 sec srt4s also. I want to make big power and im not really looking to drive it on the street. I know it will take me a long time to build so im not worried about a trailer or anything yet. I do not want a stroker motor i want to stay 2.0 but run high compression and have very very strong internals. I looked up magnus and they claim alot of stuff about their rods and input? I just want to know what parts hold the most hp. i dont mind spending $1000 on rods and the same for pistons i just want the best! I was thinking of buying a bushcar block but i want to do it myself whats the best i guess is what im asking

By the way Im thinking 11+ compression gt40r, nitrous, shep trans etc... so its not about the money its about the power ans strength i don't want to rebuild it every year.

Strokers are going to yield a torque difference of 50 ft/lbs, and a quiccer spool of aprox. 300 rpms. The torque powerband is more ideal for daily driving, but with the removal of the oil squirters for the pistons clearance in a stroker build yields higher oil pressure even with the a ported oil relief in the oil housing, typically in the area of 100 psi. With a 2.0 you will be able to rev higher with the proper valvetrain mods and once you get the motor in its powerband, depending on turbo size, you can take advantage of the higher redline. A CR of 8.5:1, 8.8:1, or 9:1 will give you the best results on pump gas.
